Battery-Powered Trailing Box-Cars, Gondola's & Coal Hoppers

Hello everyone,

Question? We are going to start offering a new line of battery-powered trailing cars. We will start with about 6 different design models which will include, your choice of gondola, box-car, or hopper…battery or batteries ranging from 12Volts Nimh to 22.2V Lithium-Ion packs, single or dual station charger, our CR-1 or New CR-2 Smart Charger’s…your choice of transmitter/receiver “ie: Aristocraft Revolution, OSI or RCS.” Sound system, speaker & fan. These will be available in Jaunary of 2010 from our vendors, but I would really like your input. If you could design your own battery-powered trailing car, what kind of features or design options you would like available in your car?

These first designs would be a simple plug-in-play with featured products (Aristrocraft, RCS, QSI & Airwire) and later we would let you design your own car through our new website.

We are also going to design a drop-in system, so you can call with the dimensions of your trailing-car and we’ll design a system to fit your
specifications. These drop-in systems will be designed on a flat hard plastic case and when you recieve it you will just need to drill a hole in your trailing-car for your plug-in engine connector, then charge your battery.

Thank you for your time and consideration, I really appreciate your input!

So many road names and styles of car.

Maybe a drop in unit that easily goes into any car the buyer likes?

Rik,
A good idea for newbies or people not interested in loco dissection. However, other than the newer Aristo, you would still need loco alterations.
For some systems, you will need 6 wires to the loco. Light, motor(s) and speaker. A speaker in a trailing car just doesn’t sound right, at least to me.
I have only one car with everything in it, except speaker. However, I do use several battery cars, with everything else on board the loco. And a few have both a battery car and a tender battery.

John, we have added a 3 inch, 3W 8ohm speaker with a 6oz. magnet with a frequency range of 300 - 10,000hz. We have also added a enclosed plexi-glass clear plastic cover over the speaker which makes the sound deep & richer. The lights and motor connection would come from the same power lead, or we have three & four pin connectors if enthusiasts would like to separate those outputs. I have decided to offer the Dallee Diesel sound card for the first design which sits right next to Aristocrafts TE Revolution card, it’s easy to access for volume controls, program more sounds, or add an amplifer…up it sounds good right now. We will have pictures on our new website www.cordlessrenovations.com/store probably within the next week, and hopefully and video?

Thanks for your input,

Update…we are in the process of designing a drop-in battery-car (Circuit Board) that you will be able to place right into your existing Box-Car, Gondola, or Coal Hopper that will have an assortment if items you can choose from to place on the board (Battery, Charger, DC Wall Adaptor, Speaker, Sound Card, Controller Card, DPDT Switch, Power Outputs for Trailing Passenger Cars, and leads to your engine). These “Circuit Boards Style” drop-in battery-cars will be plug-in-play with several different controller adaptors (Aristocraft, QSI, RCS, Airwire & Locolink) so you can push-in your Controller Header Pins into our circuit board instead of having a power jumper between sources like Aristocraft does. So, instead of wires leading from one place to another, we are designing a circuit board that will take place of all those connections. In this design we are trying to make it very, very simple for you to add additional or subtract items from the board incase of failure or you decide to purchase a new product. We should have a prototype available within the next couple of weeks, and/or available for you to see in action at the Gateway Garden Railway Meet in mid-Febrauary.

I will keep you posted,

Good ideas Rick. Post pictures when you have the prototype finished. Good to see your ad on the banner here too

And all of this for under $100 right? “America what a country eh???” LOL Regal

Thanks John, I will and we are happy to be aboard.

Also, we are in the middle of building a new website, you can visit our progress at www.cordlessrenovations.com/store . . . we are also welcoming your battery-car installation photo’s to the site. So, if you have any pictures of your designs that you have done and would like to share those with us, please email those pictures to me at [email protected] and we will add them to the site. Don’t forget to tell us alittle bit about your design and how you did it.

Thank you,

 This was my first attempt at an RC Trail car…

It’s since been upgraded to a 18V drill battery and the alligator clips have been replaced with a mating connector for the battery, but I still use the open car with the board and battery exposed :o A more recent shot with the new battery and a winter cover over the board (half a milk carton)…

Hi Jon, looks good…would you like us to add your photo’s to our website?

You may if you like, but I don’t think that thrown-together project is worthy of much more than a laugh.

Ok, that’s fine…when you have a design you’d like to add to our collection, please let me know.

Thanks,

Very nice website, Rick.
Much easier to navigate than the old one.

Thanks John,

There’s still a lot of products and information that needs to be added to the site, but I like it how it’s easier to find what your looking for than the old site…thanks for the complement!
