Batten application

Anybody had some experience putting on “board and batten” on a model building? Doing the boards was easy, spread the glue on the plexy shell and slap down the board. Getting glue on the 5/32 batten w/o any squeeze-out is a challenge. Help!
Bill

Put a small dab a glue on your finger then wipe it down the batten, then go back over it with a clean finger to wipe any excess off the board.

I put a puddle of glue on a piece of scrap and dip a small paint brush into it to apply the glue to battens.

Sorry, I forgot to mention that I am using E6000 that does not puddle all that well. Is there an equivalent that does puddle and is watertight?
Bill

Bill,

Probably won’t help you now but I always put the battens on “between” the boards as I go that way everything is stuck to the base sheet.

Rick, too late only if I don’t start over, so I am starting over and will consider what is dropped in trash as lessons learned as I transition from 1:1 to ½”. Probably won’t need my framing nailer either. I do like the idea of dadoing some Fir but that puts the plexy/glazing and your idea of painting the mullions at risk. Thanks all for your responses. Bill

Styrene or wood? With styrene, I just use solvent cement along the edge of the batten. Capillary action brings it under and it holds them very well. I did a water tower like that and it’s held up very well. With wood, I’d think a bead of Titebond II would probably work well.
