Come on now and place your bets as to when BBT will be makeing replacement drives for the Bachmann Thomas locomotive in large scale :- )
Dennis,
I bet never, because he’s still in development on the Connie.
I would think that out weighs a Thomas.
I await the reviews of the gearing
Will it have the socket?
Connie then the K27
I sold my original Lionel Thomas after many years of good service. I have one of the new ones left. It’s got about 10 minutes of run time on it. Depending on how well the new Thomas turns out, I may need to pick up another one just because Thomas rocks.
Jon.
Well, funny you should bring this up.
Over the years I have done about six of the Lionel Large scale Thomas’. Generally for different railroad Museums.
One of the issues has been the wheels I have had to use. These generally run 1 1/2" in diameter, but have plastic centers so can’t be used with my mounting system. I have one of the Lionel wheels cleaned up and ready to cast a master, but Dennis isn’t well so I will have to wait until he is better to ask him for wheels. I am looking at alternatives. But with Bachmann coming with a Thomas maybe my problem is solved.
The Connie tooling is coming along, was waiting for more drill bushings, they came in today. Hope to be able to start next week.
Have determined the solution for the K-27, need to source the gears and that can move ahead.

Maybe wishfull thinking but I have a bunch of Lionel 0-6-0’s that I believe use the same drive as the Thomas. I really like them but rarely run 'em. They only run smooth at full speed and even then occasionally falter (hate the sound of the gears locking up at speed!). I would think any Thomas drive might have a chance at saving my 0-6-0’s from a life lived on the shelf! I did go as far as to add a pick-up on a gondola and wire it to the engine, worked pretty well but the drive is still a cheap one!
