Bad news, good news

Well, here I was, enjoying a mild April day (high 40s F) and doing my usual weekend chores, when the neighbour comes to the front door and says “Do you know your shed roof has collapsed?” (He’d observed it from his back porch, which is about the only angle you could see it; it wasn’t visible from ground level in front.)
So I trot over, and sure 'nuff …
Went out to buy a tarp and spent two hours wading through slush drifts and old, big lilacs trying to get the thing spread (it was breezy) and tied down.
There’s an inch or two of ice on the ground inside the shed, so we won’t be getting anything out soon, but it’s mostly outdoor stuff anyway, so it should survive. And I know I should have shoved the ice/snow off the roof to prevent just such a collapse, but it was rather difficult to get at this year …
By the by, Fred, if you happened to be looking slightly west of south and observed a blue haze on the horizon, that was me. I hope your shell-like ears didn’t turn pink.
So that’s the bad news: The old tin shed is beyond repair.
That’s the good news, too. I’ve been trying for nigh on 20 years to winkle enough out of the capital budget to replace that piece of junk with a proper shed/workshop, but She Who controls the purse wasn’t having any of it.
Now … oh frabjous day, calloo callay
I just hope we have enough dry days this summer for me to have at it …

I heard the crunch, when it fell in…funny what a bit of extra bracing will do. I have two large metal shacks, and with extra bracing, I never have to bother worrying about snow load…

Chris…sorry to hear of your loss…!!!

I’ve built a few of those steel sheds and a few wooden ones also.
You could put a gun on me and I will not build anything made by arrow shed company!!!

It might be a nice change though to make a wooden one to code in the northern areas, I really like to make sheds that match the design of the house, yes I know ranch type houses are boring but when you make a victorian yard shed that matches a house with all the trim and all it sure does something for the property!!

Sorta like a very very large model!

I does so live in a democracy. She has one vote and I have one vote; in the event of a tie She has the casting vote. And what's the problem with that, She says, if you know what's good for you ...

As you may have gathered, my sorrow is well tempered :D

Heat anything up, hot enough, then duck it in ice water, and you will “Temper it”…!!!
