Bad Butane Valve

I posted this question at another forum and no reply, so far. So I figure I should ask the experts here.

The butane filler valve on my Aristo 0-4-0 has been a problem since new. It has been difficult to fill even using the Aristo adapter. Now the valve “stem” has broken off. Any suggestions for a replacement? Other than Aristo. I’d rather not replace it with the same valve. For obvious reasons.

Thanks,
Bill

Bill, AFAIK the Aristo valve is unique - perhaps our friend Jerry Barnes can help out here - he has done a lot of work on his mike to get it to run better.

I had Bednarik’s replace the one that was on my Mikado, a regular type that squirts out the sides when it is full, unlike the one that came on my tender. I’m not sure what the valve is on the 0-4-0.

im having the same issue with mine

Aristo is sending me a replacement valve.

I got a tip on the other forum to crack open the valve, then begin to fuel up. I’ll try it when my valve gets here. Sounds like a good idea. Hope it works.

JERRY- how do I get in touch with Bednarik?

BILLY J- Which issue are you having?

Fingers crossed,

Bill

The fellow at Aristo said he thinks it’s a normal size valve. Like a lighter.

TAC is right, Bednarik’s are great people and do fantastic work. Their new article in the latest Steam in the Garden is really neat.

Thanks Guys.

If this valve doesn’t do the trick, I’ll contact the Bednaricks.

I can now confirm that a filler valve from a Ronson Jetlite lighter fits an Aristo 0-4-0. And works very well.

Thanks everyone.
