Large Scale Central

Back to School Challenge?

OK, I am changing my project at the last minute. I have been working on my 2-6-0 trying to get it finished once and for all. So the goal is to have it done end of December. All that is left is to finish head light LED installation, finish loco/tender hose connections, install the battery and 3 Amp circuit breaker, do some touch up paint, and put in the clear plastic for the windows. The only hinge may be getting the battery and circuit breaker but everything else will be ready. The goal is to have it done ready to run by Jan 19 for the club drag and brag.

So with that said I am finishing that and not the Caboose.

Build log to date

I’m glad I’m not the only one with ADD. I’m still on the Ruby bash though, but I dove into my Bridgeport Mill rebuild project which may hurt my grade in this class. Craig don’t feel too bad at least you motivated some of us to get some things done. I may not finish by the 31st but it’s going to be close. And It will get finished by the end of January for sure. I think I started this bash about 3 years ago!

Randy, ADD alternating with lack of motivation and lack of time is the norm at the Shannon Car Shops. So you are not alone.

Well at least one two person people got something done… Heck that was the original idea after all. (http://www.largescalecentral.com/externals/tinymce/plugins/emoticons/img/smiley-foot-in-mouth.gif)(http://www.largescalecentral.com/externals/tinymce/plugins/emoticons/img/smiley-undecided.gif)

Craig, yes I didn’t get nuttin done yet. But I did make some progress.

I’ not done but I will be. And at the end of Dec I will have a completed loco and half a caboose.

Half a caboose? Ah, is that like driving two thirds of a car. Ya know, maybe you should have picked a different insurance company.

Well, tonight I got a DCC decoder into my latest toy.

Yea, its HO, it aint large scale, but its still trains. And I have been going through my HO rolling stock, replacing a few funky wheels, and getting the KaDee couplers to match the KaDee height gauge. Some were way off. In a few weeks my club is doing a show, and I am tired of the little glitches because my HO rolling stock isn’t up to par.

If you want to work with HO then you need to go back to grade school. High school is for the big boys, so put on your big boy pants and do something G scale. . . (http://largescalecentral.com/externals/tinymce/plugins/emoticons/img/smiley-wink.gif). I have always thought those double ended locos were funky but cool. Since we have the Garret build going on maybe a steam powered double ender would be a fun project. Instead of a tender at each end use a single tender with a loco at each end???

But instead of piling the wood on top of the boiler and being a saddle tank why not have a tank and fuel storage between cabs. Hmmmm

Yea, that stuff is so small, I could see it when I was in grade school. Now, not so much.

As for the push me - pull you steamers. I can’t run them on my railroad. The bridge inspector told me that the weight limit on the bridge means no doubleheadding.

Besides, I think Garretts are cool, but I was never really all that thrilled with Fairlies. It looks to me more like a solution in search of a problem.

Well, I’m fairly certain, with about a 100% likely hood that I won’t get my project finished or even worked on before the new year…

Our new baby boy decided that it was time to come on 12/20 instead of 1/14…(http://www.largescalecentral.com/externals/tinymce/plugins/emoticons/img/smiley-surprised.gif)(http://www.largescalecentral.com/externals/tinymce/plugins/emoticons/img/smiley-laughing.gif) So hobby time will be slim to none over the next 8 days… (http://www.largescalecentral.com/externals/tinymce/plugins/emoticons/img/smiley-tongue-out.gif)

Well then I guess congratulations are in order. Hope mother and son are doing well!

Our oldest was a premie, too…

Congrats and Merry Christmas. Nothing like a baby under the tree.

Congrats Craig! I hope he is healthy and strong. What a Christmas present, eh? (http://largescalecentral.com/externals/tinymce/plugins/emoticons/img/smiley-wink.gif)

Big brother isn’t sure what to think at the moment, but he is trying to figure out what happened. Baby Luke was going to be 37 weeks this Thursday so he wasn’t too early, but early enough to warrant a hospital birth instead of where my wife wanted to deliver. The nurses all thought he acts like a full term baby, so we got to ‘only’ stay for 24 hours… I told my wife that this is the most expensive and unique Christmas present I’ve gotten!

I wonder what she will think of to get you next year! (http://largescalecentral.com/externals/tinymce/plugins/emoticons/img/smiley-cool.gif)

That’s great Craig! Congratulations! I guess you have to run out and get one of those babies first Christmas ornaments now. You are officially excused from the assignment. Enjoy your new and improved family.

Most likely, he is full term. Dates were calculated wrong. Happens.

Wow! Way to go.

You’re excused for a couple of days.
