Back to O Scale again! LOL

So, this women I met says, if you can fix it, its yours. She was talking about an MTH Amtrak Surf Liner Set.
The set comes with the F59 Locomotive and three Super Liner cars that are lighted. The engine has sound. (Horn, bell, crew talk and engine startup and shutdown sounds). The track is MTH’s snap together type track. So, at first she would not move. After some patience, she finally made a loop and after running her for a little bit, I decided to lash up the cars. Talk about fun. I must confess, I miss my O gage layout, but it had to go. However, I could never find the right Amtrak set to go onto my layout. The F59 is a marvel of engineering in real life. I like the look of it. Especially when lashed up to 5 Super Liner cars. Anyway, I set it up in my basement and there she will stay. A reminder that not all is set in stone as far as staying with only one gage. LOL

BTW I loath MTH track. It goes together in such a funky way and hollow track, be it Lionel or MTH is not very durable in my opinion. Of course, there are other manufactures of much better and professional track. The MTH track seems almost childish. Though…that may be why it suits me fine for just this once as I have always loved the Surf Liner Set and always wanted one.

Its all mine and it was free.

Free is good.

Today I cleaned the wheels a little with a “Bright Boy” pad and now she runs really awesome. Very loud horn and bell as well as crew talk. Ever since I could remember, I have always liked the F59 locomotive.
It really looks cool when lashed up to cars painted the same color scheme. The set is really first rate and is an example of MTH getting a really nice, well made product into the hands of those that want nice
products. I plan on adding 2 more Super Liner cars to make the train more prototypical of the F59 lash ups one sees in California. I also plan on giving this train some breathing room by increasing the radius of the curves to 6 feet. This will allow the cars to look a little better when rounding the curves. Might even put passengers in each of the cars too, but I need to think on it since I am really enjoying the set the way it came.

Free is really good.
