Can anyone tell me whats up with this Bachmann Thomas Loco? I asked the seller why it had a …wire and plug hanging out the back… Reply was … "it is plugged in and it was made that way…Well My daughters isn’t that way… I have a friend that wants one for his Grandson and trying to get him one and came across this…

I would guess it has been modified with an added wire and plug to supply power to coaches that have lighting. I have never seen a new Thomas with a wire like that before. It would be normal practice for a manufacturer to have a plug hole instead, like LGB does.
I don’t think Thomas will ever be a rare collectible so I wouldn’t let it deter you from buying one like that.
It may come in handy.

It might have been modified to run off a battery car, In that case mostly useless for track power,

I’d pass, you can get new ones for the same rough price none modified.
