Bachmann statement of J&S coach scale

Hi Guys:

Here is a TCA Bachmann presentation:

At 16:14 it is mentioned that the scale of the J&S coach is 1:24 to 1:22 scale.

Hence, this coach is also suitable for the Aristo Delton C-16 loco.

I took various measurements comparing to an Accucraft J&S coach assuming it is fairly accurate.
Going by that logic the Bachmann J&S coach measurements are all closer to 1:24 than 1:22.5 except of course the length which is about 3 inches too short.

Andrew

I think mine look nice behind my Aristo C16.

Bachmann’s and LGB’s coaches are noticeably taller than Delton’s 1:24 coaches, but in terms of length and width, they’re comparable. I love Delton’s coaches–I think they’re the best-looking passenger coaches in large scale (narrow gauge)–but I always thought they looked just a bit out of place in a train with Bachmann and LGB coaches.

That having been said, with a width of 4 3/16",t hat scales to 8’ 4" in 1/2", and 7’ 10" in 1:22.5. Prototype coaches with 2-abreast seating on either side of the aisles ranged from about 8’ wide to 8’ 7" or so. So the car is definitely on the “slim” side of 1:22.5. I used them to build 1:24 models of EBT passenger cars, and they scaled fairly well, if a few feet shorter than the prototype. Sometimes fortune favors the foolish.

Absolutely, they look fantastic behind the C-16!

They’re not too shabby behind a small 1:20.3 locomotive like the 4-4-0, either. (I don’t have a good photo of that.)

someone on the other site took and posted a picture for me of the H-L-W RPO with Bachmann and/or LGB cars because I was looking for an RPO and they were the only ones offering one and I wanted to see how it would look in the mix. It didn’t look awful, but it definitely (to me at least) appeared to not belong with the consist so I elected against it. It was a pretty car though. shame it didn’t fit in well.

I have an original Delton #3282-Special Serial #295 in the box. The couplers are missing, but it is in perfect condition (box a bit worn). This is the mahogany D&RG RPO/Baggage car (long). I have been trying to sell it, so if anyone is interested …
