Bachmann Single Dome Framed Tank Car in 1/29th scale

Has anyone bought any of the Bachmann 1/29th single dome tank cars?

They are listed as part of the Big Hauler line but have a 95XXX serial number. Normally indicating the group of three narrow gauge cars previously sold with no scale.

Check this link for information on that series.

So these tank cars feature:

Steel wheels with roller bearings
Detailed paint and graphics
Separately applied decals (don’t know what this means)
Three different road names (two unique numbers each) Texaco, Shell and Quaker State.
Also a Christmas version.

They look great but I am surprised to see Bachmann moving into a new range after abandoning their 1/20.3 Spectrum freight car line.

MSRP is $245. I have seen them on E-bay for $170- 190.

Maybe this is the start of something new from Bachmann. In any event a little competition with AML and USAT could be a good thing for those who model standard gauge.

Haven’t they been marketing 1:29 locomotives re-worked from the Aristo molds?

If I’ve got that right, starting to sell some of the 1:29 rolling stock would be a logical next step.

I think Spectrum Fn3 will die out when everything left is sold out. I’m sorry to see them move away from that scale. They produced many nice products in that scale, but the issues with bad castings on Murphy roof box cars didn’t help their reputation.

Those are Aristocraft tank cars rebranded. There should be plenty of historical information about the old Aristocraft tank car line. They didn’t even bother to change the couplers!

I have this old kit… Seems similar, but the rivets are single-row and maybe too big. And it doesn’t state the scale.

You can even buy a pack of 6 spare couplers to convert your old Bachmann knuckles to something that won’t accidentally uncouple.

This tank car is not correctly described…it is NOT a frameless car…
