Bachmann Shay smoke unit question

I have a 3 truck Shay. I want to power the smoke unit and bypass the Bachmann circuit board. Does anyone know what voltage is used to power these smoke units?

Does anyone have the answer to this? I want to do the same for a Bachmann Indy.

Several Bachmann engines I worked on had 12 volt smoke units, and the most recent was the 3 truck shay west side lumber #4.

And there were 12 volt regulators in the Bachmann wiring diagrams.

I removed the Bachmann units and installed the Zimo decoder and pro smoke for realistic running.

I have wired a bachmann smoke unit to an airwire board that ran on 14.8v batteries. It isn’t used all the time but hasn’t experienced burnout yet.
