Bachmann railtruck

I was using my almost new Bachmann railtruck this afternoon for track power connection testing. It ran happily for about half an hour, but then stopped. Current is getting through; the lights go on and there’s motory noise from under the hood, but the driveshaft isn’t turning. I thought I heard some rattling before the shutdown, but my ears ain’t the best, especially when there’s background noise (grandkids at full throttle).
Does this sound like that gearbox assembly problem (wrong length of screws, IIRC) mentioned here and elsewhere some time back?
The beast has had less than four hours of running since I bought it at an NJ show in late June. Don’t know how long it had been on the dealer’s shelf, but it didn’t look as though it had seen previous service.
I hope I don’t have to go through the hassle of sending it back across the “undefended border”.

Unless you know how to repair it you may have to return it. I recall hearing of this problem but do not recall the fix. You can go to George Schreyer web site and he has the problems and fixes listed for the rail truck.Later RJD

Yes, I did go there, and it looks as though my truck has the problem he describes. I'm planning to rebody the beast anyway (into a closed van), so I could look at the mech when I do the rebuilding. Might also commit battery on it; it's a good candidate.

I followed George’s directions on that, very easy to follow, but I did it when I first got it. I also put in a DPDT switch to change from battery to track power, but have since only ran it on battery power with a 9.6 volt battery pack.
