Bachmann On30 minimum radius? Maximum grade capability?

Bachmann On30 minimum radius? Maximum grade capability?

Question re: Bachmann On30 lineup, what are the real world minimum turning radius of thier lineup.n particular:

2-6-0 Mogul

4-6-0 Ten Wheeler

2-8-0 Connie

2-4-4 Forney

I have a plan in mind but while most of it is 18" radius, in one section it calls for a minimum radius of 15"

So I need to find which will work, also I will have a working grade of 4% so I need to know also if they are capable of working the grade as well.

Thanks

Well, I just tried my Bachmann Shay on my window ledge at 5% grade and it managed OK with four log cars - the Climax the same, but the Connie was not keen…

Vic,

I’ve read lots of articles about 0n30 that describe curves of 15 inch radius, and even less. I think I saw a yard that had a 12 inch curve in the lead.

I’m not sure about the 4-6-0 since I don;t have one yet…the Connie has a rated limit of 16" however I have put it around a 14". Much like real railroads…can;t expect every locomotive to go everywhere…

Thanks, I figured the Connie would be the toughest, good to know it could if needed. I know the 2-6-0 is capable of some pretty tight curves, but I have little info on the others. Hoping someone will provide that info.

Someone on the MR forum suggested the Bachmann forums, forgot about those! found this

Now I just need to find grade capability

So no one can help with the 2-6-0 on a 4% grade?

Ummmm I think my hill is about 4% and I’m thinking the mogul did about 4 cars, can;t test it now cause its not DCC equiped yet…

Thanks Bart, there were some answers over on the Bmann website, I should be OK with my crazy plan, now to figure out all the rest of it, wiring, switch machines, stuff like that

The folks here and here have data sheets on all the minimum radius and gradient ratings for everything someone gets their hands on and tests.
