Picked up a Bachmann long caboose and was wondering what Kadee coupler would fit this? I’m running it with Accucraft cars.

The #830 coupler is their standard G-scale coupler in the standard draft gear box. This is identical in size and shape to the draft gear box Bachmann uses, so it should be a drop-in replacement. Or, you can get the #916 coupler, which is just the Kadee G-scale coupler that screws onto the stock Bachmann coupler shank. No need to do anything but remove the Bachmann coupler from the shank and replace it with the Kadee.

The #916 does not work on the long caboose. I bought a #916 set for my caboose and the coupler did not fit.
Haven’t tried the #906 yet. #906 is the new style (more realistic looking) coupler in an 830 box. I think the #906 should work.

Good to know, Matt. What was the issue? It’s advertised as a screw-in replacement for the Bachmann coupler head. (And i’ll echo Matt’s suggestion of the #906 in lieu of the #830. The new style couplers look much better than the older ones.)

As I recall the #916 coupler didn’t fit the Bachmann box. I can check again for a more detailed answer if needed. I tried this conversion over a year ago.

If I’m reading correctly what Kevin’s saying here then the #916 isn’t supposed to fit in the Bachmann box; instead, you unscrew the Bachmann coupler from the arm that enters the box and replace it with the #916.
DISCLAIMER: I don’t own a Bachmann caboose and have only seen pictures of the #916, so I’m guessing like crazy here.
It didn’t fit the arm. I think that is what was weird about it.
I’ll check again to see what didn’t work.
I use both the 830 and the 900 on mine. The problem is that the center pin on the caboose is just a little larger then the coupler prefers. To make it fit simpley file the a little off of the inside of the coupler shank. Neither caboose is in front of me at the moment but I believe the 900 fit better then the 830 as it has a wider opening.

I know you are asking about KD couplers, but if you are running Accucraft cars why not add an Accucraft coupler. That way you can still utilize the cut lever. On some of the cabooses that I have modified I’ve used the Hartford coupler mount instead of the one that comes with the Accucraft coupler.
