Bachmann large scale Mallet VIDEO, from the B'mann site

Hi Richard
Glad to be of any help - once Ive actually had time to drive my new locos I will tell everyone just how they go - as I said they look and seem to be superb locos, but I will do a write up on each individually and you can then judge for yourselves.

Hi Fred Mills
Sorry - I think youve got hold of the wrong end of the stick here - I didnt say anything about the DCC in the loco being overseen by Bachmann - its actually got nothing - ie zilch to do with Bachmann. For example if they stop because of a decoder problem its not Bachmanns fault.

I bought the locos from an importer - he fitted the DCC/sound decoders for me - I hope that you can see where Im coming from here ?
The decoders and the DCC are nothing to do with Bachmann -

Im going to take one of the Mallets to my clubhouse tonight and see how it runs, hopefully very well.

Is there anything anyone wants to know ?

Size wise:
Length - 25 and 3/4 inches - thats knuckle coupler to knuckle coupler
Height - its 8 " overall, but if you remove the rear light its an inch lower
width - its almost 5 " wide

It has two motors and two gearboxes

anything else ?
I will post some photos as soon as I am able to reduce the size of the ones I have taken and worked out how to post them on here
Graham

My dear, Graham;

Read closely…I didn’t say in any way that B’man had “Overseen” the instalation of the DCC, in your locomotives. I only pointed out that “Bachmann” would like everyone to equip their locomotives with DCC, and that H.Riley stated that DCC was the only way for the future. I did state that Bachmann sells a DCC system, so it is in line, and expected, that they would want to promote DCC, for use in all their products.

As far as your testing, and report; it will be fine for the “Out-of-the-box” type purchaser; but will give little information about such things as the inner wiring, of the loco; nor will it expose any potential faults or problems, that might develop in the future. Just like S.Ame’s vidios…nice wallpaper, but what kind of a wall is it hanging on. Will it support the wallpaper in the long term; or will we have to hang it all over again, when the wall caves in ?..!!!

Don’t get me wrong. I’m extremely happy that you are satisfied with your two locos, and it is fine to be excited enough to share your excitement with others.

The problem with the report you will probably give, is much like the vidio…There are many of us that care what is in the guts of the creature.
NOT to bash Bachmann, or anyone else. We just have had too many experiences where the product was like that wallpaper, and we don’t want to have to re-hang the durn stuff all over again.

The vidio, and a quicky report on how wonderfull it looks; is NOTHING more than a bit of additional advertisement;(Like what we seem to get in the model press these days) not an in depth review, which is what we are waiting for.

Not everyone desires DCC. It may work splendidly for you; but others would like a loco that is “Readily”, and easily adaptable to “Any” control system that “THEY” enjoy, not necessarily, what the manufacturer wants to sell. The same goes for noise systems.

Phather,
When I get mine, it will be gutted completely. New wires soldered to the motors and light.
Everything else will be laying on the bench in a big steamy pile. I’ll post a pic, if you so like.

Yesterday I gutted a brand new Annie. What phun!. She now runs superbly. (As long as the gears hold up–:slight_smile: :slight_smile: :slight_smile: )

John, my courageous son;

I have had several of the version of the Big Haulers, with the latest drive, along with two Annies in service, for many years.

As a tribute to Bachman’s quality; they have never given me any problems. All of them haul up to 12 car trains on a regular basis, and do all the switching out on the road along with yard duties.
When B’mann produced that last drive, they seemed to get it right.

For my money; the Bachmann Aniversery Edition of the 10 wheeler, is and always will be the best bargin on the market.
Mine also still have the stock pilot truck, although they have been repaired at times. They are not pampered in any way.

John;

Please do, post pictures of the gutting process as you preform the ritual !!!
