Bachmann K-27 Facelift

Hello all,

I wanted to share a little work that I did on my K-27. Seeing it sit on the shelf for so long after neglecting electric for live steam, I felt bad and dusted it off and decided to improve her look a little bit.

I went ahead and installed some curtains, an engineer and fireman figure, repainted the smokebox, and painted the cylinder heads silver.

Here she is prior to getting shopped

And after…

The plan is to weather the smokebox similarly to my Mogul like this…

Thank you for checking out the post!

Matt

All your links only lead to Photobucket home page. No pictures!

Same here, just a login screen

I was able to find the photos for Bear Flatts RR in cyber space and here they are…

Hey guys, I was just shown the direct link option vs img or html. Thanks to Ken Brunt for that!!

And thank you Joe for pulling those up.

I went ahead and did a conversion today on the locomotive as well. I installed Airwire and Tsunami sound i today.

I hope to get out to the layout tomorrow and take it for a test run. If so, there will be pictures and hopefully some video also.

Matt

Your welcome, Matt. I wanted to see what all you did to your K…

I haven’t had the heart yet to weather mine, it looks so darn pretty…

I know, I would have done it already but I like seeing it as clean as it is!

Although it will be easier for me to weather than one of my Accucraft locos.

And I guess at the end of the day, you can always just repaint it right??? When I first got the loco it was a glossy green mess from the prior owner that I cleaned up with the pretty flat black.

Mine has a stock-from-the-box green boiler …and maybe one of these days I’ll dirty it up a bit, bit for now, I enjoy the shiny new look of it…

What did you use for the curtains? That’s something I want to do to a couple of my locos.

I am trying to remember where I got them from. If you look close they actually have small little hooks on the top, like they could actually be hung from a small curtain rod. I have been searching around to see if I can find another set and have not had any luck.

The most work I have done on one of my locos has probably been on my LS Shay… Here’s a shot of it.

I have a SPng Ten wheeler that’s due for a dirtying considering they were always filthy in the pictures you see of them operating. I did paint the drivers, and dullcote the engine. I will probably end up using some chalks to dirty it up

After you said that I had to go back and look. Missed that the first time. Neat little trick. They look like cloth too, and I haven’t figgered out how to get them made without all the little threads sticking out all over the place or keeping it folded back. Might have to look for some starch…

Yep, they are definitely a nice little addition. Now if we could only find some more… If you do find some, please let us know on here!

I am wondering if they actually came from a different application, and not actually made as cab curtains? Maybe oollhouse curtains?

You might be right.

Though they ones I found in the catalogue are a bit different then these. And it did say they came with hooks, ready to hang…

Yep I did some searching and never found any like the ones I have, but I think we are getting closer…

Ken you might have success with Stitch witch. Kind of like a white glue for fabrics

Looks very nice.

Got a little running in today! Took her out and ran for about an hour or so before the battery died. It wasn’t fully charged but I am thinking I may try to install another battery pack in the tender for longer running.

Aside from that, everything went well. This loco definitely has a much greater swing with the pilot than any of my others so I did run into a few clearance issues. Not a hard fix though…
