Wow RJ! you got lucky, All the $30 ones I saw have the plastic gear! Even the photos on the Bachmann site of the $30 copies show plastic valve gear.
No matter, the price is right and 40 bucks after the discount for an Annie drive is super cheap and $24 bucks for for a version 5 Big Hauler drive cannot be beat either. Better get yours before they get sold out I hear that some big Ebay sellers are snapping them up.
The $30 versions will fit all early Big Haulers with no problem, I was told, and others have posted, it is when using the $50 version on the old Big Hauler bodies is where fit issues arrive. The ones you see with the long pilot are replacements for the wood burners and the short pilot versions are for coal burners. Again get them while you can. I noticed that some are already sold out!!

Bachman Shipped my 2 Gen.5 chassis today. I’ll fill you all in on them when they get here.
WOW… WOW Got to work Friday morning, And on my desk sat a package from Bachmann. I ordered these replacement drives on Monday 10/28 and they were here on Thursday 10/31. Philadelphia to northern New Mexico, ordered and received in 4 days. Now some of you may not have gotten that kind of service from Bachmann, But I did… I’m Impressed… Shipping was $10.00 added, and they shipped USPS 3 day Priority.
Here’s what I ended up with, CH-81099.

All Metal drive rods and timing gear. Packed really well in their own littile packing boxes.
I’m going to update an older chassie with one, and I don’t know what in store for the other, some kind of bash i think.

Just go to their site and click on parts. That’s the price. No sale that I know of.

I got one of them chassis, and it didnt fit under the locomotive I had. The valve chest wont fit under the running boards. I guess I bought the wrong varient of the drive (there were several). So now I have way too much locomotive kitbash fodder.

Dave,
I converted a 2nd Gen. 4-6-0 using one of Bachmann’s 5th Gen chassis. The only problem was the valve/cylinders are larger and I had to trim the air tanks a little. It turned out great. How much you want for that one you say you can’t use?

That looks really nice.
I would like to do an Annie conversion to my old Royal Blue B&O Big Hauler.
If all i need to do is to trim the air tanks I would be a happy camper.
I have a Variable Speed Oscillating Multifunction Power Tool that makes trimming plastic parts a breeze

I have read that there is 2 different Annie Chassis verions.
The newer on is supposed to have a better pilot truck and more metal but is a little trickier to adapt to the older shells.
Which Chassis did you get?

Where did you read that the 6 Gen. chassis is any harder to fit than a 5 Gen. chassis?

I think I saw it on the Bachmann forums.
Of interest is Ana Kramer’s site selling two versions of Bachmann’s 2-6-0 unpowered. They both are shown with wheels and value assembly, no power. One under $30, the other $30+.
The man’s name is Albert Kramer ANA is his email address. (http://www.largescalecentral.com/externals/tinymce/plugins/emoticons/img/smiley-cool.gif)
That would be a 4-6-0 Wendel. And the price sure is is right: http://www.ebay.com/itm/BACHMANN-G-Scale-Anniversary-White-Pass-Yukon-Loco-ONLY-Dummy-NEW-Display-/141585835835?pt=LH_DefaultDomain_0&hash=item20f72c673b
Also looks like it does not include the tender.
After reading the ad, my thought was that it does not include the tender, too.
Yes, it says locomotive only. I wonder if the thing could be powered, but I have enough (read too many) projects right now.
David, the ad says it can be powered by either Bachmann’s aftermarket drives, or by adding a BBT.
