Large Scale Central

Bachmann Inside-frame Mikado

Now that I have your attention, the new unit has been tested under power, minor tweaks have just been finished, and here is the unit on the trestle after climbing up from Mound House:

Here is front view. A tender was borrowed from one of the 2-8-0’s in the roundhouse while the tender is being built for this unit.

The inside valve gear will be changed to Walschaerts in the near future. This is the latest test unit out of BBT Loco Works. TOC

Very nice!

You indeed have my attention, but perhaps not for long.

Tom, with those blind center drivers, I think you could have another railway on the floor. How come you haven’t made a loop yet? I got some extra LGB track!

Regards, Greg

Boy that is very nice!

I like it.

Of course, I’d have to go for the 1:20 option … bigger boiler, cab, and I’d add things like a second sand dome, an ash pan, and probably an air tank and lines, making for a pieced walkway. The Walschaerts will improve things a great deal too, though I think I’d have to go for piston valve cylinders and external dry pipes (but then, as we’ve discussed, I like the ALCO look while you do not!)

Something along these lines, I think, would be spectacular:

In the side on picture, the flash shows the surface behind the top of the drivers … is that part of the motor block, and if so, is there room between it and the drivers to do some springs and suspension mock ups to cover it up somewhat?

The “Do It Yourself” options are endless!

I have another boiler in work.
It has two sand domes.
The third is coming up soon, straight boiler, two sand domes, and Barry will cap the drive so you can see under the boiler.
