Bachmann C-19 Chuff sensor

This the Bachmann C-19 chuff sensor worth using? It would make life a lot easier if it works but I want a clean 4 chuffs per rotation and one installer says its crap. Whats the overall thoughts on this?

Thank you

Bob

I use the optical chuffs on my B’mann Climax, and they work great. I had planned on using them on my C-19, but I accidentally zapped them in the process of wiring things. I’d give them a shot. Know that they are adjustable–there are little “flags” in each of the cylinders which allow you to tweak the timing of how they break the optical sensor beam.

I ended up just using 3 magnets on the tender wheels. The tender wheels are almost exactly 3/4 the diameter of the drivers, so it’s almost a perfect 4 chuffs per revolution of the drivers.

The chuff sensor works great on mine. There’s a switch in the tender to have either 2 or 4 chuffs per revolution.

Here’s what it sounds like: http://www.largescalecentral.com/forums/topic/25386/a-tour-of-the-layout

Bob.

I found no problems with the C-19 chuff timer.

They worked just fine.
Unlike the Bachmann Mallet I recently converted to battery R/C.

After having a perfectly good chuff timing method in the first run locos, Bachmann “Improved” the wiring by eliminating any clearly marked solder pads on the P’n’P socket in the Mallet and forced the consumer to install a 6 volt power supply for the Chuff timer sensors anyway.

plugged a qsi in and 4 chuffs per revolution, installation took longer to open tender than install board.
