Bachmann Big Hauler wiring

Not sure if I should post this here or in the Kitbashing thread, but this is techincally a problem.

Anyway hi everyone I’m Matt, I’ve recently taken the difficult task of kitbashing a Bachmann big Hauler 4-6-0 5th Generation into an Australian 4-6-4 Tank locomotive.
(This is my first kitbashing, all my other locos are LGB ready to runs.)

My problem is the wiring in the Bachmann, I’ve bought myself a new fan force smoke unit to replace the (sorry to those who do like them) horrible bachmann original.

What is worrying me is the amps the new smoke unit has, it draws about 2.5amps at most.
Is this too much for the bachmann wiring and pins to handle.

I have bought myself some 7.5amp wiring in case I need to replace, but I want to get some advice before I go ahead.
Or if I should buy a different smoke unit.

Welcome to LSC!

There is more than one way to make smoke!
An Automotive Electrician once told me: Once the smoke gets out of the wire it’s not good.

Welcome, Matt!

If you’re comfortable replacing wiring, then I’d say go for it. When I convert to battery/RC, I replace any wiring that looks too light, just as a precaution.

Thanks for the mention Cale, but I don’t do track power or smoke units.

I use the original wiring on heater elements, I find they are around 1 amp in the motorized units I have worked on Aristo, Train-LI, USA trains.

Fan motors are very small current draws, any wire small wire will do.

Hello again everyone,

So I have gone around to replacing the wiring, but I still have some concerns.
I guess that some know that the 5th Gen Bachmann Haulers have 2 small pins that connect to the track pickups to the motor and other features.

Considdering there will be some level of amps, (About 5amps most from my LGB controller), from motor load, a 2amp smoke unit, mylocosound and standard bachmann hauler lights.

Will these pins melt from all these things happening at once?
I can’t help but feel that they look a little thin in size.
