Large Scale Central

Bachmann 4-6 Big Hauler Annie or new Aristo 2-8-0 C16?

Used Moguls are reasonable? I wanna know where you shop, I havent seen one sell for less that $400 on Evilbay.

Go for The Annie, they are easy to seperate from the Big Haulers by the added details and metal siderods. The pilot issue is easiely solved by adding a small amount of weight like a 1/2oz fishing weight or like me, adding a 1/2 oz self adhesive automotive tire weight on top of the pilot wheels frame. The Annie has a proven track record of reliability. Like others here, the C16 is very much a wait and see model, they are not kidding about “troubles” with 1st production runs from this company. This engine has been a very very long time promised, many of us think its been so long because hopefully, they learned their lessons from past releases that might have been a little “rushed” and this time they are hopefully taking their time to assure a reliable product, time will tell.

Like you I am new to the large scale world. I purchased an Anniversary Annie and am very happy with it. I only have a small loop of track in the basement at this time but it ran right out of the box and I have no problems with the front trucks leaving the track. I bought the yellow bumble bee model and four passsenger cars. I did not buy a set but opted to buy each car separately. The Big Haulers that come in the boxed sets do not have all the detail and metal side rods like the individual Anniversary Annie. With the help of one of my RR club members I converted the Annie to battery power and RCS control. It was not very difficult to do and I know nothing about electronics. For the price I don’t think there is a better engine you can buy that comes as close as a narrow gauge engine as the Annie.

Then you weren't looking very close, lol. I passed on a couple this month that sold in the low $200 range, and mine only brought $268 :(

I’ve seen a SPC “Annie” on ebay but they want $189.00. Where can I buy one for the $130 price I’ve seen here in these posts?

keep checking Ebay that is were I got my SPC's from and they were all around the 100.00 mark

The thread is 3 years old, and so are the prices.

If you can find an Anniversary for under $200 then jump at it. Gone are the days when Annies were being dumped on the market. Ray Cozza always has a pseudo Annie (White Pass) every day on his site and auction prices range anywhere from $100 upwards (2 days ago $147.00!!!, next day $103.00).

LOL I was just thinking that. The economy was better in 2007.

How times change!
I now have 2 Connies, 2 Annies and 1 Mogul–Bachmanns.
Disregard all that crap I said above.

(Of course, they’ve been altered a little.)

John Bouck,

Tell Paul to contact me concerning his burnt out BBT Drive Big Hauler, it is under warranty.

John,

One more, for the derailing Big Haulers, I make an equalized Pilot truck frame which stops all that.

Barry,
I’d like to try one of your pilot trucks. But didn’t find a price the last time I checked your web-site.

Barry,
You’ve already fixed it. It is in an Annie now. The original Big Hauler body is scrapped.
