Now that I’m about to power the layout (I’m battery/rc) and our club layout is about to begin operating I have a Bachmann 4-6-0 that’s in need of repair.
For the time-being I don’t need to turn to Barry but a couple years ago the front four got jammed in a friend’s switch and it snapped the top pin that holds the wheels on.
Has anyone been able to take one apart and find the parts to fix it? The engine block and gears are fine so far so I hate to retire this engine. I would try goop on it but a spring holds the wheels and I don’t think I can take the pressure off it while I fix it.
call barry. he can get you or may have a front truck peice that you just put on. he has been great at getting me peice that I need to keep things running with out a total redo.
Doug,
You e-mailed me and I answered: I have a pilot truck frame with a stainless steel arm, which uses your wheels and will solve your problem.

Thanks Barry. I can breath some life back into it!
I just knew Barry could help. He’s my hero.

Maybe you need to send an ass to Barry so he can sign it for Geoff

I’m in the process of replacing that front pilot with Barry’s new pilot but I have a question. I take it the entire motor assemly has to come out of the engine so I can desolder Bachmann’s wires and replace them with Barry’s? How do I get that motor out? I’ve got the cover out but what next?
This is my first motor disassembly project.
ALL…
I replied to Doug Not to take the motor out and more instructions. Hopefully he’ll get it solved.

Did you see my latest note? Bachmann must have built my engine on Friday afternoon. Both wires are black!

My pilot has had awful things happen to it. A little glue, styrene, a screw… Still running nicely.

Well, I’ll watch for a little puff of smoke. That will tell me if I wired it wrong!
I told Doug, by email, that the wires are painted, but if you check close to the terminals you may see the red color, or lightly scrape the wires to discover the red color insulator.
Trial and error, if wrong it is a dead short, swap wires.

Thanks Berry. I got a brighter light and my magnifier and one of the wires, after scraping, is actually gray. At least now I know which are which. I was going to post your note but you beat me to it.
Thanks again for your help.
Barry, one of my pilot wheels comes off the plastic axle easily. Caused a big wreck today, and a long hunt for the missing wheel. Do you have a solution?
