Bachmann 2-6-6-2 with Revolution

Very long story made short…

If installing Aristo Craft’s NEW Sound equipped Revolution in a Plug n Play Bachmann 2-6-6-2 and find the lights nor chuff work.

Find an older non-sound revolution receiver and use it instead. Magically the lights and sound will work perfectly.

Did Aristo change their receiver boards??? So it would seem.

I don’t have the time to run traces, so I will leave it to Greg or Tony to find out what changed

Personally I hate Plug n Play.

If it is the Revolution sound pcb that has changed I would be getting in touch with AC and asking them.

I like Plug’n’Play. Providing of course the design standards are adhered to.

Unlike AristoCraft locos, where the socket standards are simply not consistent and do not have a chuff timer, Bachmann have been very consistent with the PnP socket since the K-27.

How did the sound work perfectly if you used a non-sound revolution receiver?

My head hurts enough from banging it on the provibal brick wall. Be Bachmann or Aristo Craft, they simply blame each other. The way it is, the way it has always been and the way it will continue.

John, as painful as it may be on your head, logic tells you that if an older Revolution works just fine with an after market sound system in the Mallet and the new Revolution with sound does not, then the change has been in the newer version. Nothing to do with Bachmann.

BTW, even though AC introduced the PnP socket they did not actually design it. Digitrax did. AC managed to get the pcb laid out as a mirror image to the original Digitrax design. That is why the first Digitrax Large Scale decoders had to have a pin bent out of the way to eliminate a short.
Given their past history of inconsistent implementation of the PnP socket pcb by AC,I know who I would support when it comes to who is right and who isn’t.

I have not found any difference in the outputs between the sound receiver and the non-sound receiver. The lights and the aux outputs have not changed. Maybe you have a bad receiver - there have been a few reported. I would call Navin at AC and see if you can send it back for repair.

Can you tell me what speaker you used in your 2-6-6-2?

There is not much room under the PC board.

Tom

This is the speaker I used.

Thank you

The bachmann uses pins on the second connector.

Aristo does not, but heavens knows what they connected to it.
