Bachmann 2-4-2T, second gen', surface dimensions ...

I posted on B’mann forum, but I presume less traffic over there as no answer even over the weekend when ya would think there would be more !?

"…The PSR just ordered one of the units on sale.
Anyone have a unit with the rectangular pin striping on the saddle tanks that could measure the inside dimensions of that rectangular, so I can start designing the ‘herald’ (nothing fancy but name).

Also at same time could ya measure the flat space (rect. too?) below the side cab windows for a unit number.
mm would be terrific (inches doable) …"

Maybe not clear enough ?

Anyways, thanks for your time and any info !

Doug,

I’m not sure if this is a 1st gen, 2nd gen, 3rd gen or what, or whether the pin striping is the same as yours, but here are the measurements for this one.

Inside saddle tank pin striping: H 38mm x W 132mm

Below the cab window: H 26mm X W 41 mm

Ken;

Wow !! Yours certainly looks real and well-used !!!

That is the one (if the driving rods (?) are metal, 2nd gen) rolling up in this direction (but seemingly still doing laps in the NY sorting facility).

Thank YOU for taking the time to take out the measuring tools…

Now to work on some decal prep…

The rods are metal and yea, that’s been around awhile. It came in a set with a flat car and bobber caboose. I haven’t converted it to bat/rc yet, but it ran good and was a good puller.

Hope you have as good a luck with yours as I’ve had with this one.

Ken that is first generation, second generation is same size the difference is it has brass gears and a pnp board
Mike

I’ve never had it all the way apart. Just the saddle tanks to see if I could fit batteries in them. I’ll take your word for it Mike!

Ken the newer version sold separately not in a set.
Mike

All of the ones I’ve seen since are prettier than mine and lettered for the “Southern” or unlettered. The wife bought this set up in K of P as a Christmas present. One of those “Black Friday” deals…

“…rods are metal and yea, that’s been around awhile. …”

Yeah sorry I never got back earlier, when realized that the 2nd gen came out 2010-11ish (GR review was in 2011 oct. ?)

nite.

Just glad to be of help, Doug…
