Anyone have one of these?
Just wondering how they are, build wise, wheel sets etc?
Noticed they are on the back cover of this months Garden Railways magazine and though they looked pretty nice.
And… I need to someday get a 1:20 size caboose to go with my loco’s & cars that I have!
I picked one up at a very nice price at ECLSTS. I love it!
That does look nice… How long have these been out for?
They’ve been out for a few years now.
Very nice model. I normally don’t model in 1:20.3, but I picked up a “flying” Rio Grande caboose to go with an Accucraft C-16 as an indoor display. They look great together.
The caboose comes with very nice wheelsets. Fairly free rolling.
About the only thing I didn’t like were the LED colors. Too orange for the interior lights and too white for the marker lights. I replaced all with Golden White LEDs.
Oh and I haven’t figured out how to easily convert it to Kadee couplers yet. The Kadee “Bachmann” style coupler does not drop in.
Here’s some photos:

I changed the marker light lenses to yellow and red on the rear per the prototype. I used cut LED push button covers to simulate Fresnel lenses.

I should add that I’m in the process of painting the grab irons, railings, etc… silver per the prototype. Unfortunately Bachmann did not do this for me.
Thanks Matt! looks like I will have to search for one of these in my travels!

We use Kadee 900s in our Bachmann cabooses. The center post is a little larger then the freight cars so a little filing on the coupler shank hole is usuallly required.

Thanks Stan, I was wondering what make the cabooses were when we visited your layout.

Good fodder for weathering…

Looks great! I can only get that look after I leave it outside for a few years, someday I will attempt to actually weather something.

Don’t want to get too far of track from the original post, but do you use the 900 box as well? Completely replacing the Bachmann coupler?
