I liked the size of my HLW boxcars and wanted another one but was not willing to pay over $50 for one plus no one had them in stock. I looked at the 1:20 scale 20’ boxcars by bachmann. The size is the same. I am really happy with it and cost almost half the price. What threw me off was the trucks and wheels are smaller then the 1:22 series. If it was 1:20 scale wouldnt you think the trucks and wheels would be the same size of the 1:22? I have a few spare trucks that I will replace the smaller ones with and add larger wheels. I just though it waqs strange that they had the smaller trucks/wheels. They also have the 1:20 scale style couplers which are much better. I also got a 20’gondola. I really like the shorter look in rolling stock
Shawn, IIRC, those cars were never actually 1:20.3… B’mann just slapped that label on to try to move them because they had NOTHING to put behind their 1:20.3 Spectrum locos.
But, yes, shorter cars DO look better if you don’t have 40 acres to work with…
BTW, I think the HLW boxcars and the old Delton ones might be the same… might be worth looking into.
Modeling modern mainline stuff is so much easier…NOT!

THanks Mik. I have one HLW boxcar already the problem is trying to find anyone that has them in stock for a good price. Wholesale wants over $50 were the Bachmann are only $33. I beleive HLW and Delton are the same just improved a little if I remember correctly.
Shawn I actually prefer the smaller Bmann wheels and trucks, if you dont want them send them to me, but I’d hold on to them for future bashing, they are great for shorty mining or logging cars. I’ve only got one 20 footer left, I have been trying to go even smaller for my tiny RR

The Delton box cars are now made by Aristo. Kalamazoo’s molds went to Hartland. Apples and oranges, those two cars in terms of detailing.
