Bachman 4-6-0s

It’s light reflection off the counter weights.

Ralph, These are the 5G Annie chassis. They have a brass worm gear and nylon axle gear. Also they have the old style pilot truck. Still a very good deal though. BTW, I have a 5G Big Hauler (PRR) that had drivers with the painted spokes like the one Mike showed above. I didn’t like them either so I popped out the centers and painted them flat black/ The drivers themselves are the standard metal spoked wheels.

Thanks Joe. Just what I needed to know.

Nick,
Ordered one, but it hasn’t arrived yet.
If it’s a Big Hauler, or Annie, it should work.
Look on the Bachmann site. There are 3 or 4 variations of the drive available. December special, so don’t wait too long
And don’t order the $30 drive, it’s a Big Hauler drive.
Ralph

Nick,

As I said earlier, I just bashed a Gen 2 upper with an Annie lower (with a little futzing), but it all worked out. So I guess what I am trying to say is all combos work together.

Ordered mine today so we shall see what it looks like when it arrives. They say these will be on sale till sold out. Later RJD

Joe,
Are they normal looking wheels or do they look like hub caps in the picture.?

Nick,
Here are some more links of the different variations available. None of these look like “hub caps”

Nick, All the drivers have plastic inserts (hubcaps). These are pretty easy to pop out and repaint. The chassis from the Pennsy loco looks more like a hubcap because B’mann extended the spoke paint onto the counter weight . On my Pennsy loco I repainted the driver hubcaps flat black. Rest assured that all the drivers are spoked metal under those hubcaps.

Thanks Guys, Looks like the kids circus train may roll again.

Got my 3 drives yesterday. Two of them arrived with the front axle of the pilot truck broken.

Not really concerned, as two of them were for bash fodder, but they wern’t packed very well.

Got mine yesterday too.
Mine was packed very well. Seperate box for the drive and a larger box with bubble wrap.
I was quite pleased.
I ordered the same drive. The spokes are painted on the counterweights. A little paint will fix that.
Ralph

Bob,

Are those pilot wheels actually broken or just separated?

Broken, both plastic axles are sheared.

I'd let them know. They might send you a couple of replacement pilots, rather than have you return the entire drive. Ralph

Bob,

I have some Plastruct tube which can replace the broken plastic axle coupling. Like the stock coupling you have to glue the axle stubs into the tube.

Barry

Let me know where to send them.

I was never a fan of the Bachmann wheel sets to start with. When I did my loco, I ended up tossing them and replacing them with Sierra Valley ones. They’re quite a bit harder to take apart, but they sure roll true.

Thanks for the offer, Barry, but I looked in my pile-o-stuff and found some acrylic tube that’s dead-nuts on in size of the broken axle. A quick cut with a razor saw and I’m in business.

Now to figure out what wire goes where so I can retrofit one of these into the old 4-6-0 I have…
