Large Scale Central

B&O's Evans City station project

Oh my goodness, that has really started coming together. You are going to have a great, unique model. And you were just going for a representation, right?

Nice job! That looks real good…

Looking good Mik

What was that song by The Fixx 25 some-odd years ago? 'One Thing Leads to Another'.... This thing has taken WAY too long, and cost about 2-1/2 times what I wanted to spend on it. (and I have about 8 more buildings I want to do before May!) Yesterday morning I put in all the eave braces, which I WASN'T going to do. Added the thresholds and doorknobs, and built the bridge railings (didn't look quite right without them....) Then spent $11 last night on a quart of charcoal grey to seal the base and paint the roof. (and THEN found out the stuff takes 12-24 hours to dry -- at least it doesn't stink too bad, and I should have enough to do all the building bases).

I’ve got 2 chimneys, and 3 sign boards to make, then touch up the yellow… Then I’m going to send this thing to my mom’s till spring so I’m not tempted to go back and do the clapboard and fishscale siding “properly”.

Speaking of sign boards, does anybody have a file for that Railway Express Agency sign above the ticket windows? Looks like a simple computer print, cut, and seal job – except every image I’ve found online was taken from an angle instead of square on.

Mik,
Looks good.
Over budget and late…are you a government contractor

You should be able to make the REA sign easily. The font doesn’t look too obscure.
Ralph

I made this one up to use on my own station. You’re free to copy it if you like.

like this, except square on instead of drunk.

I can do it from scratch if I have to, but I thought I’d ask first

I haven’t seen any like that one, but I may steal that pic and make one like it…

I did it on PaintShop Pro. Black background, yellow letters then added a yellow border then a black border. Could have made a bit thinner and longer but I did it in a hurry.

I saw in this months GR that Photoshop could correct perspective, so I thought this would be a good excercise. This is only about 15 minutes of work, including referencing help to get it done, so the results are not perfect…

It’s got a little curvature along the bottom edge that I could probably fix, but it’s getting close. Damn - I learned something from GR. I guess I have to re-up after all :frowning: EDIT - Played around a bit more in Photoshop. Found the automatic perspective fix option for the crop tool and tried it…

It does a nice job but there is still rounding distortion along the bottom edge. I think this is lens distortion, not keystone from camera angle. As good as it’s going to get  EDIT: Spell checkers will drive me crazy!!!

THANK YOU!!! I knew somebody would come through!

Mik,
What parts did you use for the baggage cart? Those Ozark castings?

I messed with the original some:

Looks like ya got the whoopuss out of it…

Baggage cart is Ozark wheelbarrow wheels, coffee stirrers, a bit of basswood, a plastic disc, and some bent wire… nothin really to it. Middletown & Hummelstown’s in Middletown, Pa.
