B man K 27

The springs finally lost their function saggy saggy rear! Are replacement springs available? B man service is unresponsive to that problem!

Tried the posted helper spring (on top of the motorblock)worked for a while but now the loco is rocking on the main drive axle and keeps derailing a lot!

if nothing is at hand i might pull the old ones and stretch them a bit!

Any hints what to do best?

This may not be much help for your problem now but did you store it on its wheels without supporting the center two drivers? This problem happens to Accucraft locomotives due to the high weight of the model pushing down on the front and rear drivers and over time this breaks down the springs. If this did cause your problem, once you make repairs store the model either on its side or on a section of track so all 8 wheels support the model even.

May I suggest Precision Scale Co. as a source of springs. Check their web site at ‘http://www.precisionscaleco.com

Manfred,

I would recommend doing a search on the interweb for ‘spring manufacturers’. i believe two are Lee Srping, and Stock Spring (may be one today). Remove one of your springs and measure the OD of the spring, the wire diameter the spring is made of and the free length. It might be a good idea to count the number of coils as well. Contact them and see if they have anything in their stock offerings that is close. They will manufacture customs, but long arms and deep pockets prevail.

This issue has arisen before, but I can’t remember all the threads that gave solutions…some better than others.

Here in Southern California springs can be found at Orchard Hardware, they have every size spring you can think up. Replaced my K-36 springs with Osh springs

Google “small springs for sale” and you will be knee-deep in websites to order your springs.

Andrew,

Finding someone to sell you a spring is the easy part. Finding someone to shell you a spring ‘to do what you want it to do’ is a totally different matter. The folks I mentioned, providing the information I recommended, will get you a spring that is close to what was there. And if you wish to get something a bit stiffer or softer, they will be able to help with that as well.

Google ‘How to size a spring’ and you will be amazed at how much information you need to know to properly size a spring for a specific application.

Did anybody measure or knows the size of springs needed for the K 27?

Hi Manfred,

These are the same springs used in the large scale 2-8-0.

Please click on the link below parts and service then click on to order parts click on large scale.

Then in the search box put in 813x-g814x-mt030 you will see spring (Large 2-8-0 -) they are 80 cents each to order on line.

Here are the springs!
