Talk to your mailman, keep talking to Kalmbach. They pay the USPS to deliver the mags in good shape. It is a problem for the mail service to solve.

It does get annoying trying to use thir forums. It takes a little longer to load anything I do. As a new person I do like the magazine. It gives me a lot of good ideas and its great to see articles from those on this site.
Disclaimer: This is my personal opinion and is in no way, shape, or form to be misconstrued as anything resembling an official response from Kalmbach or GR.
I get the pop-up “ad” the first time I sign on to the site, but I click the “x” and that’s the last time I see it while visiting. Personally, I find it no more annoying than the subscription cards that they stick in the middle of the magazines. (It boggles my mind–as chewed up and spat out as magazines can get en route to our mailboxes, those stupid cards stay in until I open the bloomin’ thing up over the kitchen table.) I hate having to rip the ones that are folded over the spine out, too. Alas, advertising is a fact of life. My income is derived solely from TV advertising dollars, so I hardly have room to complain about a magazine doing the same through every means they have available.
Later,
K
HAH!
I wonder how many more reviews you would do if you complained.
We got the official response from GR, deleted posts and the take it or leave it attitude.
There’s advertising all over the page, and tons of links to all the extras for subscribers already.
It’s just more advertising, just how the “bug” on your screen now advertises new shows on tv, and it can take up to 25% of the screen.
But you are right, we should just roll over and take it.

I thought it was within my right as a subcriber to say I did not like the pop-ups, so did several others on the thread on trains.com… I did not start the thread, but the entire thread was deleted.
Not real happy about it… I thought the site was for the subscribers… I guess it’s not their highest priority…
Greg
The web-site is a revenue tool.
The fact you have to be a subscriber to access the content limits its potential as a promotional tool.
Ralph
Yep, that’s what I don’t understand, battering the people already subscribed with constant reminders of how great it is to have the extras…
I’m guessing the popup is constant, just the content changes, if you are a subscriber you see “extras”, if you are not, you are encouraged to subscribe…
Greg
One thing I really dont like is that even though I subsrcibe to GR, I cannot access MR Classic Trains, Trains or Classic Toy Trains web features because I do not subscribe to those specific magazines, that just plain stupid, and shortsided IMHO, they get my subscription already how much would it hurt to give any subscriber access to all the forums features, it would certainly encourage more use instead of shooing off people.
It all boils down to $$$. They want to squeeze every last dime out of everyone they can. I don’t fault people for trying to make a few dollars, but if that’s ALL you’re after, you have no business being in the hobby business!
Besides, after what Klambake did to the Greenberg Shows while they had them, they deserve all the criticism they get.
I haven’t seen much of anything posted on their site in years that wasn’t already elsewhere. Be different if they had printable coupons for stuff from their advertisers.
I just visited the GR web site (I did not Log In). No pop-up. I clicked the FORUM tab, glanced at the post menu. I then clicked on Classic Trains. A red pop-up came up but as soon as I clicked the FORUM tab (no Log In) it disappeared. So there does not seem to be a pop-up issue for me. .
So you saw the pop up. OK.
So you don’t care. OK.
Greg
It isn’t that I don’t care! It is just irrelevant as it disappeared as soon as I clicked to visit the Forum which is where I wanted to be.
The thread is about adding popups to the GR site.
You saw it, so you have confirmed for yourself.
Yes, no one said it would never go away forever??!!
I have a link directly to the GR forum, and I get the popup virtually all the time.
So what is your point, it’s not an issue because it went away when you clicked something else?
I surmised that you did not care because you saw it and said it’s not an issue.
So you saw it, it’s not an issue, so you don’t care…
Greg
Maybe the use of the word care in England has a stronger meaning than that in the United States. I care a great deal about many things but not, to my view, unimportant items on web sites. The pop up does not bother me in the least - there are far more worrying issues to be encountered on the internet than this.
I cannot understand your continual pedantry Gregg. Why must everyone have to conform to your viewpoint?
This is obviously another place to avoid.
Greg - Just because you’re mad at MLS, you don’t need to take it out on LSC members. Why is it you always seem to be looking for a fight over some petty choice of words?
I’ll settle it. I don’t care!
I don’t go there.
I don’t go to any site that requires me to pay to read, or even requires me to sign up for free membership…to read.
You are paying for the privilege to access the site, I understand the annoyance with the ads.
However, we pay for magazines and newspapers that are chock full of ads.
And that is the business model GR operates under. It is what they know.
Ralph
Eventually the printing industry will be NO more given costs of everything. I know I was a printer for many years. And the Electronic Medium will eventually take all the things that are printed and that you hold in your hand. You can listen to read books and can find almost anything in the Electronic Medium now so it won’t be long till there is NO Garden rr mag and it will be a pay for item on the internet. I’m like Ralph If its out there, valuable, or pertinent to me, I will find it and use it! Everyone is looking for a better bang for they’re buck this day and age. You just have to be patient and wait for it to come to you or come looking for you or to find you!! Hah LOL The Regal
Del, you just have to escalate and take a comment and blow it up, of course. I’m not mad at MLS, and why don’t you ask before you assume anything. So you are just trolling around to help protect people from bad old Greg?
Alann, all I asked is why you posted… you don’t mind the popup, you don’t care about the popup, all ways of communicating clearly.
Calling the popup irrelevant is confusing and not clear communication, the popup is the subject of the thread, for goodness’ sakes !!!
So, all I asked is what you meant… you saw the popup, and it apparently does not bother you very much.
Well, it’s bothered a lot of folks, and some have posted that they will cancel their subscription.
Maybe others are upset but now are afraid to post on the trains.com site since one thread was deleted, and the very strong response from Klambake.
So, many votes on not liking the popups, 1 vote that it does not matter to him, and one person who just entered the thread to give me a hard time.
Got it.
Greg
