Someone thinks they have come into a gold mine. But they are only going to get pennies on the dollar in the end…nothing valuable there…
I’m assuming that is in the local currency, Australian dollars, about 69 cents US to their dollar. I couldn’t find where their site or pdf inventory states that there is a reserve or minimum bid.

I think that is a “Cost” column, not a sell price. And probably in AUS$ so, with the markup for shipping, a Bachmann 4-4-0 ends up retailing for AUS$1,200. The owner probably paid almost that for it.
I looked up the Thomas the tank engine. $600 asking.
New in box on ebay $200.
Exchange rate 1 au . = $0.69.
Us dollars woukd be. $414.00

I like the LGB 43682 for over 2 thousand AU, saw one on ebay for $145…
The company probably told the widow she had a goldmine, and got the job by promoting a high price… but sure that being an auction, it will go for market value.
Someone is going to be disappointed…

Well, two points struck me. First, the whole shebang is “TO BE AUCTIONED ON LINE AS ONE LOT”. Second, it’s in Australia.
So… I hope the on-line winner bidder has those facts in mind, otherwise he might be taking a slow boat home from Adelaide, haha!
[added this after Bruce commented below, but I didn’t know he was typing while I was, so there’s life in a nutshell…] As far as prices go, from what I saw, the list seems to have the prices the deceased gentleman paid for them, not the auction starting price. So if the winning bidder puts up, say, $5k for the lot, it’s worth the trip to Adelaide, and shipping. But my bet is that a wise local Aussie will grab the lot, and have a really nice day contemplating how he’ll either keep the products or spend the next year selling them on EBay for a tidy sum.

The auctioneer said that, if it is not sold as one lot, then they will sell everything as separate lots. I assume that would not happen on the same day as everything would have to be catalogued and lot numbered.
If anyone wants anything checked out the site is only ten minutes from my home and I could go up there when they are open late next week.
I’m guessing that they will get about 15-20% of list (ie about US$18,000) for it from someone who wants to make a business of selling it over eBay.
