Attic Find - Winner and Marx trains - Help!

My daugther and fiance discovered a box in his attic with some prewar Marx and Winner/Lionel trains in it. Nothing special, but they seem in good condition. She’s reluctant to toss them in the trash and asked if I could help find them a good home. Any ideas where I can sell them? (I’m not keen on eBay but there are similar things being sold there.)

Locally we have both a toy train exchange and an auction house that deals in trains. You might look for something like that in your area.

Pete,
I have two friends that are into Lionel stuff like that. I called to one fellow and he asked how much you were looking to sell them for?

Hi Pete,

Check out Maurers train auction all they deal in is trains.

Chuck

Pete,

I would look to first have them valued by someone qualified in the Train Collectors Association. Look them up on the net to find someone local to you. It is always wise to know what you are selling before you sell it. I have a fellow here in Florida, but with out seeing the item in person, he will not value it.

Good luck and great find.

Bob C.

Many thanks for the help.

I don't think she is trying to make any money. I've seen similar locos go for $100-200, and the cars for $10-ish. The Winner set is missing bits - my first photo shows all that is left - no engine, track or station/controller.

I’m sure she’d be delighted to get $100 + shipping for the lot.

(I don't blame him.) Looking on evilBay, these seem in very good condition - hardly show any signs of use. The coaches look mint.

I looked at TCA, but they have a membership operation that requires sponsorship by existing 2 members. Their ‘exchange’ does have a bunch of similar stuff on it, so I might try to find some local members.

Pete there should be a show/sale at the Odenton Fire Hall coming up. Usually Lionel American Flyer, and Marx, and the thing I like parts tables

Pete, how much you asking???

Is the locomotive electric or wind up?

Pete,
Sent an email your way.

Aw Rats Ralph! Ya beat me to it… :frowning:
