So. Historically this company out of Philly has used the nmra conventions for announcements. One wonders (aloud) if this might just be the year for announcing new acquisitions? One wonders if the large scale standard gauge mentioned but someone earlier might be in the offing?
All speculation, of course, placed carefully in the forum designed for that.

One wonders…
Williams by Bachman recently introduced a 4-6-0 in Standard Gauge that looks suspiciously like a Bug Mauler.
I know some folks have massaged their narrow gauge Bug Maulers into Standard Gauge this or that. All it takes is a shorter stack, shorter domes, shorter cab, perhaps a smaller bell, a bit more room in the cab, and there it is, a standard gauge 4-6-0.
Dave I can tell you what large scale item you are getting new from bmann this year:

Really? What would you expect a Baldwin 10 wheeler to look like?
Personally, I wouldn’t expect a standard gauge 4-6-0 to look like a Tweetsie narrow gauge 4-6-0. A tad more heft, probably bigger drivers, more substantial cab…you know, little things like that.

Well, I wouldn’t expect it to look exactly like East Tennesee #12, would you?

If that was what was being modeled, then yes I would!

Joe, stop being so smug. Tweetsy #12 is a 3 ft narrow gauge locomotive. What WBB is trying to do is pass it off to the 0 Gauge rubes as a Standard Gauge locomotive. If you are ok with that, then have at it. Frankly, I expect them to try harder.

You are being too damned hard on them.
Huh? I’ve looked at that Williams, while it does look similar to the Bug Mauler, it’s certainly NOT a copy of it, the cab is different, the proportions different and the tender is totally different, to say its different enough to be its own model:

Bug Mauler:
If any Bmann product is a direct copy its the On30 version:

Want to complain about something how about the fact that the On30 line has twice the number of offerings vs LS, including alot of items that could EASILY be produced in LS like the FWD railbus or the baby Hiesler?

What no one seams to be noticing is that aside from a tidbit C-16, we are in danger of becoming the orange haired step child thats not quite as important as his fair haired siblings in N, HO, O, On30 or named Thomas.
I’m hoping to be disproved by future announcements but besides the C-16 all we have gotten of late is reissues., my concern is that in future, will this be the pattern for future new releases, a big expensive lollypop that only the rich kids can afford and a couple repaints for the rest of us.
Hi Vic Smith:
O and ON30 is where the “large model” sales are for Bachmann.
It is no coincidence that Aristo Craft also entered the O Gauge market place.
I would love a Baby Heisler in largescale. The street price would be around 1,000.00. No way that I would pay that. I think that the Bachmann largescale party is now unfortunately over. It has been a great ride but the new China factory pricing is shutting down the festivities.
The only hope for a Bachmann revival of a broadmarket for largescale is for Bachmann to expand their Little Hauler line with locomotives featuring valve gear but with spartan detail thereby appealling to the low end of the market and also the hobbyist end of the market allowing the hobbyist to add detail to the model at a reasonable initial purchase price.
Basically a product line similar to the Bachmann Industrial loco.
Norman
Interesting observations Norman.
I would love to see more detailed additions to the Lil Hauler lineup, but I have to wonder how well they have sold since being introduced to the LS line?
Hi Vic:
Failure to add the valve gear detail to the little hauler locos was a big mistake.
I understand that the bell was molded on the boiler to prevent a choke hazard. Strange how I survived my childhood. I had at least enough common sense as to what was food and what was not !
The Little Hauler short passenger cars should have been of 9 windows length. These are the Bachmann J&S cars shortened. Lee Riley, or whom ever, shortened the cars too much.
A 2-4-4T similar to the BALDWIN loco #5 presently at Disneyland and a 0-4-2T using the molds of the Little Hauler with tender would sell very well.
I do not believe that Bachmann has any further desire to sell to the mainstream of the largescale hobby. Their efforts are now just to the high end of the market as a China replacement to the German LGB.
