As expected, the challenge will be delayed

All,

I’m here to report that I’m actually engaged in trying something new and building a challenge entry. Sadly, you’re reading this message instead of looking at a build log … for the following reasons:

1.) I got into the game kind of late … and between rotating shifts, and trying to write a book for work, and a host of other stuff, I’m runing even further behind than I’d feared I would.

2.) I spent too much on it … while I really DID need a pin nailer for my bridge, and had planned to get one, the fact that I bought it when the kit got here, and the various nails for it, probably disqualifies me right out of the gate. I did save a receipt for $24 and change from Ozark, and managed to rustle up everything else from supplies on hand though, so maybe if we forgive the nailer on the thought that I’d meant to order one last month for a bridge I’m working on I’m not dead in the water yet … but …

3.) In the process of getting started on the very last day possible, I manged to miss changing pin sizes, and managed to nail the whole works and the plans to my workbench. Not too encouraging! (It’s since been freed … now to grind off a bunch of itty bitty nail points…)

So … time permitting, I hope to have something to post over the next week or so, and I mean to complete this thing and post the log just as if the contest were still going. (I harbor no illusions about actually competing… just want to demonstrate that I “also ran” ) Trust me, it wouldn’t have won anyway – I’m just happy to have had the chance to build and learn alongside everyone else… this is the first one of these I’ve tried. Hope that’s ok – really I never harbored any illusions about being on time with this to begin with, but I did want to give it a whirl.

Too early for 2014?

Even if it’s too late for the contest, EVERY build is worth it and worth looking at.

LMAO on nailing it down to the bench… Only because I’ve sorta done it my self, late one night while working on my Great-Grandsons Christmas train, that flat car would not budge after putting on the side rails, Of course I used plenty of pins, that way it would be harder to pry loose. Same thing wrong size.

BTW. there is my DNA (involuntary blood sample) on the back side of my new house… Damn it hurt, missed the bone thou. I thought that I had all the 1" pins out, and put in 3/8. I thought that my finger will surely clear a 3/8 pin, and it did, only to not clear the other 5/8" of the 1" pin…

Keep at it, I’m looking foreword to the build.

Once super-glued a model airplane to my leg through my jeans…Good times.

I learnrd the hard way with my pin nailer… drove it thru my thumb while holding a piece of pine to nail on the end of a covered bridge… I quit for the nite…

Keep us posted on your progress Mathew

I really like the new pin nailer and figure that since I haven’t pin nailed myself to the bench the Challenge is a success!

I too am still working on the Challenge but it’s getting done!

Been there, done that :] At least the pin nailer doesn’t do as much damage as the finish nailer !!

I stoll remember when I worked in the school library when I was in eighth grade. I had a stapler jam and I flipped it over to wotk on it. The stapler unjammed and the stapler went into my thumb!

I’ll keep at it. Working all weekend (like WORK work) so, nothing more till Monday, earliest. But I’ll get there. (I appreciate the encouragement…) I think my plans will be unique for it too … I haven’t found anyone else doing what I’m doing. (Edit: Ok, maybe ONE, but it doesn’t look much like the one I’m doing.)

Thanks for the laughs, Matthew (OV)! We’ll all be following with interest, and if you keep this up, maybe a few giggles into the bargain!
