Articulation

Although Auto-Max articulated cars were not used on the branchline that i’m currently modeling, they are quite common on the CSX line that I now live by. I have seen a couple people that have custom built cars but the treads are years ago and some picture links are broken.

I’m at the point of basic car shape, rolling chassis, which seam to handle the curves better then the damn Uni-Level car does!! I’m stuck on what to do for the articulated baffles between the 2 cars.

Any suggestions??

Picture of the said prototype?

accordion folded heavy paper (like the stuff they make those green hanging file folders from)? You’d have to treat it to be remotely damp proof tho.

Mark, We, my wife, mother and I, made our accordian out of material & piano wire… The material was folded and sewn to have ““pockets”” to slip in the “U” shaped paino wire in… The ends would set into an L-shaped bracket glued to the inside of the car ends over the articulated truck… The material was a shiney black material… It gave the impression of the rubber accordian style and the painao wire made the material hold it’s shape…

Cool cars, and an interesting project!
