I needed a flat car for the cheap Hobby Lobby metal tank I got a few years ago. It will be part of my Army train. Had it sitting outside for a few years on the flatcar I ended up putting the Cobra helicopter on. I cut the sides out of pine from some plans I found online. Covered them with rivet embossed metal duct tape(should show up better with weathering later). I used some ‘SKINNY STICKS’ I got in the Walmart craft sectiion, 75 to a pack. Bit better quality than my wood coffee stir sticks, but still had some warped and undersized ends. I used Titebond 3 to glue them down with a weight on top. Stake pockets are some brass pieces a buddy made for me years ago, had a little die and would pound them out. I made the trucks from some castings I did of some high speed caboose trucks that I made last year for my caboose. Gary Raymond 1/32nd wheels I had on hand and Kadee 820’s. Boards are finished now, will scrape/weather them and get Stan to make me some decals. Need to make one more for my Huey diecast I just got.
Jerry, nice Job…
Looks nice Jerry. Gives it some nice detail. Later RJD
Thanks, Stan is doing some decals for me. Ran it around my layout yesterday with my other army cars. Tank stayed on with some gum. Will chain it down once I get the decals on the car. It uses some home made trucks with 1/32nd Gary Raymond wheels, ran for hours with no problems.
