Large Scale Central

Arkansas Southern Railroad revived

Happy Thanksgiving to everyone! Great news! The Arkansas Southern railroad has been revived. After a long dry spell and some months of not having/making time to get any large scale railroading accomplished, with the Christmas season coming it was a good time to get the Christmas train setup, and instead of just setting up a basic loop, A six foot runaround and three sidings were added (one will be the mainline that runs around the side of the house into the back yard, a future venture).

After getting the trackage arranged and connected, today I got ballast on the line and leveled the track in the ballast, and setup the small four car train seen above behind 4-6-0 no. 9960 and let 'er run for about an hour or so. There are a couple of small items that I’ll have to address after the Christmas season, but the way the line is now, I’m content to keep it as is and connect it to the future expansion in the back yard. Again Happy Thanksgiving to all, and I am grateful to everyone for your posts, opinions, suggestions, tips, tricks, comments, and model railroad discussions that will help me learn more and expand the ARSN in the months and years to come. Michael

Ok, a few other pics of the rest of the current railroad…

And it's all downhill from here................;)

Like alot of us believe, just get something down and running. It doesn’t need to be a huge GR page filling layout, just something that is fun and most important, running.

Its a very nice looking layout, like said above, its all down hill from here, the hardest part is done.

Agreed, Victor and Ken. As soon as possible, just get some track down and get that train running. You’ll feel great about it, and from then on the rest is details…

Looking Good!
…:)…

Tonight I took the passing siding out of the front of the layout. Not having the turnout points near curves helps the ten wheelers smoothly run around the new track. After the holidays I’ll insert the passing siding on the backside of the layout down the side of the house (north side) towards the back yard where the line will eventually lead to the back layout (future project).

This gives me much smoother running and less problems for the Christmas train to run around its’ loop for the holidays. When I start doing operating, I have three sidings available on the backside of the layout, and the passing siding will be located closer to all industries for helping to runaround cars to set out and pick up.
