Aristo's 50 ton 2 Bay Offset-side Hopper Car

Aristo’s 2 Bay Hopper Car

Remember these cars? They came in those plastic see thru boxes that I had cut my finger on.

Way back in 2008 I got only one Aristo 1/29 scale 2 bay offset-side GM&O hopper car that’s modeled after an ACF 34 foot prototype, and then earlier this year (2019) I got an additional two used Interstate cars with metal wheels in virtually new condition at a swap meet bargain price.

Both of these cars were Aristo’s “Club cars” in 2008 when that type car was first introduced. I never got more of these cars to make up a unit coal train like Aristo no doubt had hoped for big sales quantities, so I always wondered how many folks may have done so.

Anyway, I realized I hand not described or did a “vignette” (article) about these cars other than what I had posted on that other forum in late 2008 - after their ownership change suffers from muddled and/or lost images.

For anyone interested, finally there is a “vignette” about that car hosted for me on Greg E. Web site, title:

Yep , Have a few myself

I only have two, they were the ECLSTS show cars one year. I am not a fan of that style of hopper car.

I really like these short hopper cars; ideal for my back yard. I have nine of them. B&O, D&H, 2 DATA only and 2 GM&O purchased in the UK. A MILW, from RLD and two show cars P&VW and Public Service of NJ (the ready kilowatt guy). One data only car is a trailing battery car the other one and another have been adapted to take a cut down, in length (the width is fine) Bachmann Big Hauler (EBT) coal load which has been repainted to represent ballast.

I was interested in a box of six G&MO ones when they first came out as an Aristo Club offer, but I was never able to get a shipping cost quoted by Aristo, so I lost interest. Had Aristo still been producing I guess more road names would have been produced. I know one or to of us were keen on forming an Alphabet Route consist.

I love them, have a handful. Since I run Kadees, it was almost nirvana to have an Aristo product that Kadees would just bolt on to.

Almost everything else needs cutting and filing, like the gondolas.
