I was looking at the aristocraft Rogers and was wondering if the engine is a good runner. I like the price and the style. I no nothing about this engine and had a hard time finding any reviews etc… I am a little concerned about the 1:29 scale, would it work with my current RR? (HLW and Bachmann log cars)
The AristoCraft Rogers is not any particular scale.
It is like some other Large Scale offerings and a model of no particular prototype at all.
As I understand it the, idea came from a print of a woodcut illustration.
Some have measured the model as being quite close to a 1:20.3 in dimensions.
Nice loco. Runs well. At least the original Korean model did. It had two motors. One in each of two motor blocks.
The original Korean made LGB Porter, which was supposed to be 1:22 scale, turned out to be a very accurate 1:20.3 model of an 8 ton Porter.
Shawn,
I have the 1998 Sesame Street set and find the locomotive a dream to run with tender wheel power pickups connected. Until recently, the loco came with a traction tyre that even on new unsold models, had already perished before sale. I found that a LGB tyre suitably narrowed is a perfect fit (and will not perish). I believe the ultimate aim is to equip this locomotive with the prime mover gearboxes (eventually!). From memory, the earlier locomotives suffered from the Aristo 0-4-0 crusty wheel syndrone and required regular cleaning. I am extremely happy with my ten-year old model in its rather garish (but nice) Sesame Street road scheme.
Sizewise it will fit admirably wiith any 1/22.5/24 scale rolling stock.

Now, the problem that I had with both engines though is the pilot wheels would not stay on the tracks. I replaced them with some old heavier wheels that I had and it’s been fine since.
Thanks for the responses. I am strongly considering getting one. I also like he new Bachmann forney but I dout that will be close to my price range. I did read that it is bigger then the 1:29 scale and will work with with 1:22-24 scale. Do the new rogers still use traction tires. Thats one thing holding me back. I guess Im a bit anal but Im not a fan of traction tires. I like the metal on metal.
Hi Shawn,
I don’t know whether a C16 from Aristo would be of interest instead but it is 1:24 I believe and presently you can buy a C16, with a free caboose, and then send in for two FREE of the Classic cars that match. Part of the present sale.

I though about the c-16 but im not crazy about the look for my RR. I think the wheel base would be too much for my curves.
Shawn you got mail
Wheels?
Ah, yes, the ever-corroding early production (?) Aristo loco wheel image.
I found teh 0-4-0 slope-backed tender switcher has big problems with the wheels corroding and stopping pickup. Other than this problem, it runs fine.
Remedy:
I used the LGB ball-bearing wheels in the tender and wired them to the loco. The pickup problems ended.

I have one I converted to a 1:20 logging loco and my wife uses one just about stock for her 1/29. They run really well and pull great. this was the inspiration for my logger.http://4largescale.com/RichardSchmitt/28.htm

Mike Williams said:Mike - that looks great. Thats sort of what I plan on doing. I ended up ordering it looking forward to adding another engine to the KMRR roster. Now I will be set for a while I will ahve two great pullers and two smaller engines for the light stuff.

Shawn,
I think the 4 center drivers on the C-16 are blind.
Shouldn’t have any prollem with your curves.
