Continuing to thin the heard of things I never run in order to fund FN3 purchases. Up now is an Aristocraft New Haven RDC-1. Low hours, but used. Runs run well. Includes the original box. The RDC has been living on a shelf in my basement for several years so it might be a bit dusty. Here are a some pictures taken a few years ago…

Thanks Jon! It’s now in Paul Norton’s shop awaiting its turn to to receive a Revolution controller and battery pack.

Nice…

Hey Stu - Good to see you posting here! Thanks again for taking this off my hands. This will be the third time I’ve brought it with me to sell. Finally, this year I turned it into a very nice narrow gauge caboose.

Jon thought you would like an update on your RDC-1. It was the first train to run the full length of Fred Mills IPP&W this year. Paul Norton and I very quickly converted it to radio control and battery power in a 4 hour hour secession which included lots of photo’s for a future article on the OVGRS web site and a break for lunch. Now that we have figured it out future installations should require less than an hour. The installation consisted of installing a diesel revolution throttle in the plug and play socket. Connecting the revolution sound terminal to the built in speaker plug. Removing the smoke unit from the roof panel and wiring a battery to the former smoke unit power wires. There is adequate room for either a 22v or 14.4 volt battery where the smoke unit was, and easy access (2screws) to access the battery for charging. The switches on the unit are set to battery power and the former smoke switch is now the power off/on switch. Looking forward to lots of running this summer!

Stuart, what I do, is take the screws and screw them in from the bottom of the shell… This leaves to 2 posts to just sit the roof panel back on, and it doesn’t slide anywhere… Easy removal for changing/charging batteries… I have connectors between the batteries and the RDC unit, so I just unplug the battery and install a new battery…

Andy sounds like a good idea but putting the screws in from the inside must be tricky without taking the car apart.

Stu, yeah, I know… I usually do it when I am installing the Revolution, cars is apart then…

Thanks Stu -

Looking forward to pictures of it on the IPP&W. As you probably have already learned, the RDC is a great Track Geometry car. It will point out any cross-level issues; especially on curves by derailing.

Did you bother to swap the front and rear trucks to extend the sprung axles to the outside?
