Large Scale Central

Aristocraft FA-1

Well I am very thankful that I have a great supporting wife like I do, cause she just gave me a ton of great reasons to purchase my first G Scale Diesel a Aristocraft FA-1 Alcoa. Even though I am a steam engine fan I do like the looks of the first diesels so I am anxious to see how it runs. I will post pictures of it once it is delivered.

If anyone is familiar with these and has any pointers of things to look out for please let me know. Thanks,
Sean

First thing:
Flip it over, remove the gearbox covers and lube it.

Although (except for a couple critters) I run all steam, I too like the early covered wagons.

Lube it sparingly. Too much grease is worse than not enough.

Depending on how old it is, it might well operate in the opposite direction/sense to any other similar models from Aristo-craft that you might get later…mine did.

Check it out, if possible, against a known model.

Whut the ^%^& yuh talking bout, Steve. Are you a man or an old lady?
Too much is never enough!
I dunk my enjins right in a bucket of oil.

Well seeing how it has not arrived we do not know if it’s a newer version or older. So no advise till it arrives. Later RJD

FA-1 A&B units were my first buys 15 years ago. Still running strong. I did add extra lube right away. Plating did peel off the wheels, so converted them to battery power, still running fine.

Ok I did some more research on these and this one is Art#22034 (no longer in production). Thanks guys for the input so far, will do as soon as it gets here. Here is a pic of it.

Sure could use a repaint, looks to garish.

They are great runners and you should get many hrs of enjoyment out of them. i have never had to add any lube to them unless they are NOS then I would check them and lube as need be. Later RJD

Congrat’s on the purchase…
