Aristo Snow Plow Question

I should be able to answer this for myself since I own one, but it’s full of rock ballast that I don’t want to dump to turn it over…

Is the plow simply snapped in place on a modified Classics gondola?

I have a spare plow blade and a spare gondola that I can sacrifice. I’d like to make up a second plow to put on the rear or the train so I can plow my wye in one pass. Looking at the blade I don’t see any place for fasteners.

Is cutting off one end of the gondola body all that I have to do in order to pop together a second plow?

If so, that’s too easy. Why have I had these components sitting here unused for 4 years ???

I’d like to help, but mine’s full of rocks, too, just like my head… :stuck_out_tongue:

Bottom is snapped in… top front has 2 screws

Yeah, you just cut the gondola body down. I picked up each pretty cheap and made my own that way. Some guys here have been more creative though, using the blade with cabooses/etc.

OK - I looked closer at both my factory one and the parts. I ended up dumping rocks on my head but I think I have the answer. Just snaps on. BUT, it looks like the gondola’s deck is cut back to the bolster as well. Not sure I want to take the saw to it, but if I cant find a gondola for under $40, I’ll do it.

Sorry Rooster. No screws. I think you added those on the Penguin.

I did not add them screws!

WOW! Fr. Fred is also a Plowmaster!

Best,
David Meashey

Jon you could unscrew the trucks and then move them back. I did that with my plow build. Just glue piece that holds trucks in place. It should hold fine

With a little ambition the plow can be fitted to a c-16 or bug mauler

Then you have a different version of the blade than both of mine…

No screw where the blade meets the gondola. Just the plastic J to hook onto the stake.

@ Mik -The snow and grades on my railroad would eat a steam engine plow alive, unless it was a challenger or one of those other tree stump pullers.

@ Shawn - Thanks for the idea. I might have a better one though. Trade for a complete RTR plow and keep the blade as a spare

Time to buy a three truck Shay?

I’ve got a 2-truck in the shop waiting on Buchanan Wheel Works to replace the drive gears. At this rate, it will be spring before the Shay is out of the shop.

Oh, and while looking for boxes to ship stuff in today I figured out the I have 3 of the Classics EBT gondolas, 2 NIB plus one that has served in power car service on the plow extra. I’m pretty sure that means the used one is getting the saw today.
