While it would be great to see the Aristo stuff come back, personally I really don’t see me purchasing any. I don’t need more boxcars. I am not a diesel person. And I already have a fleet of locomotives that is far greater then my needs. What I would like to see is parts for the Aristo stuff become available. That will only happen if Bachmann sees a market for the parts, a market where they can make a decent profit. And that is a big if.
Not sure this thread is about who has every loco he needs or not.
But I can tell you that it’s a rare company that makes loco and rolling stock detail parts ALONE. Aristo virtually only made parts for locos when the locos are produced. The exceptions with Aristo were couplers and wheels pretty much.
Kader (Bachmann) has been even more “stingy” with replacement parts. There have been long periods with no parts, for a much smaller collection of “G” scale.
USAT has been much better on keeping detail parts in stock. They seem to “get” that parts can be profitable.
So, I maintain that for you to get your parts David, the production of the loco/rolling stock needs to come first.
Greg
I have read the posts but I have been told that the dash 9 was the best in dealer sales and it still holds a good resale value. I also been told that (Backmann) they are looking for the molds and there are quite a few. what ever it is all good
Richard
love to talk to whoever told you that stuff…
the only time I have heard they had trouble finding molds was when LGB wanted theirs back ha ha!

Greg, you kind of missed my point. But lately many folks do., I guess I just don’t explain myself well anymore.
I would like to see Aristo stuff come back onto the market. But my point is, is that I will probably not be purchasing any.
When/if Aristo stuff comes back into production, I hope to see parts for the products also come to market. I said that would be a big if, because I know that parts aren’t the money maker that whole items are.
GLX makes some parts. But it would be nice to be able to purchase whole power trucks (side-frames and all), passenger cars trucks, freight car trucks, and other large parts again.
Sorry for my somewhat snippy reply David.
This thread was started by one of the few surviving dealers about having a part available that was long gone for a number of years.
So somehow instead of saying “Hey, thanks Robby!”, it morphed into getting new locos, and then you come in and say “I ain’t buying no more trains, just parts”… honestly, so what?
So your reply was not on the original topic nor on the morphed topic of what other stuff could be built… but how you only want parts. I did reply about the historical evidence of parts and how the 3 main “manufacturers” handled it.
So, you have made your point, you want parts, you won’t buy any other new stuff, and apparently you want parts with wheels.
I got it before. I get it now.
Greg
Parts??? We don’t make parts for toys. You break your toy? Buy a new one.
Chinese business plan.
You want expensive models? You pay.
For cheap, they run off smaller lots w/ no parts and make money on cheap labor assembling the product. Remove labor and you remove their profit.

Not intending to continue derailing the original TOPIC line…
If you have a need for an Aristo part; just contact Gilbert at GLX, and he will consider trying to make the part for you. Right now I have an Aristo model here, waiting for him to take the measurements for making several replacement parts for a customer.
If you check his web page; you will see that he has parts for a few of the Aristo trucks, etc. If there is a demand, and he can see an original part to take measurements from, he will consider making a replacement part.
Making replacement parts without actually copying the original parts, is an expensive process, so parts are not inexpensive. But Gilbert does try to keep the prices reasonable.
Gilbert does have a lot of people here in Ottawa, with Aristo products, and can usually find a model to see the needed part. I have assisted him in borrowing a part from a member of LSC, in order to measure it for making a new one. He has helped me out many times, and sort of got started because of the demand around here.

Greg, yes, I took the thread drift up a few notches. So back on topic, I am glad the motor blocks are available.
Fred I know. Gilbert made the roller bearing caps for me, so I could put a set of Aristo roller bearing trucks back in service. And he did a wonderful job. I have also purchased several other parts from Gilbert. I think he is a real asset to the large scale hobby.
