Aristo Mallet

Hi guys, I have a potentially fairly expensive problem which I hope you can help me with.
I just bought an Aristocraft Mallet fitted with a QSI sound system and it has a major defect.
On start up in either direction the rear drivers start earlier than the front set and continue to run at about twice the speed. I have run it on rollers and track with the same result, any ideas before I pack it up for return and start the arguement to get my money back.

Geof,
That sounds like an “internal” prollem with the circuit boards.
She’ll have to go back. :frowning: :frowning:

If ya can’t get any help, I have a brand new Great Northern mallet with QSI/g-wire installed. Or get ahold of Greg Elmaiasson (probably butchered his name) he is very familiar with Mallets. The Regal

Normally this is binding on the slower drive. I replied on MLS on all the tips so won’t bore everyone here. In rare cases it is the motor.

Regards, Greg

p.s. if you have to send it back, send back just the motor blocks, they come off pretty easily.

Hmm. I’d call 973-351-9800 and ask about it. Not supposed to do that. There usually is some variation between the front and back block, but not that much.

I think Greg’s right. Likely a rod binding.

I ended up sending the motor brick back to AC. Just kept getting worse as I ran the loco. Check all angles with no help. got it back and loco no runs great. Later RJD

Glad to hear it!

Glad to hear it!

Ihad to send My Mallet back to them for the or what seemed the same problem when It was new.
It now runs great too and has for the past two years. Now keep a eye on the drive rod bolts. I had one come out and bind everthing up.

I dropped an eccentric at Golding’s. Turns out it’s the same thread as a tie screw.

Tom, I thought all the “screws” were hex heads on the valve gear, not philips.

Regards, Greg

Thread’s the same. Just looks different. Keeps the loco from falling apart… more.

Hi, all fixed now thanks to Greg, the rods were binding due to the quartering being out on the rear drivers.

Thanks all for your interest

Great news Geoff!

Another tip: call up Navin at Aristo and get some spares for the hex bolts, you will thank me.

I believe there are 2 different sizes at least, seems to me 2 different thread pitches and 3 different hex head sizes.
