Aristo Locomotive versions

HI All,
In the past I always bought new through my Aristo dealer. Sadly with the closing I will be forced to go to Ebay to get an FB, RS3 and U25B. My problem is that there have been several runs of all of these. Making things worse, when an Ebay seller or other dealer says it is new in the box you still have no idea what run it may have been.

I am wondering if there are any visible changes in these locomotives when the new runs were made?

Were any of the three made with the Pnp socket?

Are there any versions to be avoided?

Any other tips on getting the latest version would be greatly appreciated.

I was told that info has already been posted, I could not find it, so could someone point me in the right direction I would very much apreciate it.

Thanks Bill

I don’t have your exact answers, but I do know there are differences that can be seen in the RS-3. Probably not something you could pick up from eBay pictures though. For one thing, the fan screen on top of the RS-3 is very fine screen in the latest version. There may be other changes but I don’t know them.

Manufaturers have always shied away from version numbers on thier stock. Probably to protect dealers holding NOS.

The 2cnd run of RS3’s had traction tires. The first run and later runs didn’t.

Thanks Jon & Ralph, great way to tell on the RS3, I was also told on another site that the later motor blocks did not have adjusting screws so now I have some good ideas at least on the RS3. I can always ask the seller for a photo of the top and make sure there are no traction tires.
