I have installed ball bearings in my aristo freight cars and find it difficult to reinstall the springs. I have tried tweesers, screwdrivers and knives with very little success…HELP!
David,
Are you familiar with the Kadee Spring-Pic? Something along that line should work.
Make sure that you install a piece of red thread, about 3 feet in length (that is a little less than a meter to the rest of y’all) into the coils of the spring.
When the spring goes sproing, and it will, the thread will slow down its trajectory, and give you a chance to follow it with your eyes and perhaps find it when it comes to rest.
Good luck.
The Kadee spring pic is the best tool.
Steve, I have been using black thread all these years. Is that the problem? Where can I buy red anti-sproing thread?

Greg,
It has been a long time since I was last in Carlsbad, so the store that I have in mind might not still be there.
As I recall, there is a small “Army/Navy” store near the Tri-Cities Hospital. I don’t remember the name of the street, after all, it has been a few years… well, ok, more than a few years… but there was an anchor near the front door.
They carried the red anti-sproing thread. The reason that I recommended the red is that it is less expensive than the black. However, if price is not an issue, the black is of superior quality.

Guys,
Shouldn’t the thread be any colour that is in stark contrast to the colour of the floor?
And what about those who are colourblind?
How about a miniature fishing rod … that would allow you to reel in the errant springs without having to follow their trajectory?
Both red and black are usually in stark contrast to the bland color of the floor.
I guess that those who are color blind will have to cope as they usually do.
What scale mini-fishing rod are you suggesting?
Pls note. South of the border, color is spelled without the “u”. Eh?
What was the original intent of this “thread?” Oh, yeah, springs.
Spring springs at 6:07 PM PST according to the guy on the radio.
