Aristo Craft C-16 still available as of my posting

Hi Guys:

I just checked the Aristo website and both versions of their C-16 are still in stock.

This really is a high quality locomotive at 1:24 scale. But if 1:24 scale is not your thing, then I guess you have no use for this model. The tender, when separated from the loco, rolls effortlessly when given just a little nudge. The tender lettering of the Pacific Slope wood burner tender is extremely impressive. What more can I say?

Do not complain later if these locos later appear on ebay at twice or three times the current price.

I guess the fact that these beautiful C-16 locos, which almost certainly will not be produced again given the existence of the Bachmann C-19 product, proves that 1:24 is no longer a commercially viable product. Too bad really but I guess the customers have spoken.

If I were still in 1:24, I’d be buying a small fleet of them. I’ve always liked them from when Delton first brought them out, and the 2008 version with the belt drive is a solid performer. By far the best of the series. I really wish they would have caught on more. As ubiquitous as the inside-frame 2-8-0 was on a number of narrow gauge lines, I’d have expected it to be far more popular with narrow gauge modelers.

I’ve still got two older-generation C-16s sitting derelict on the shelf at my dad’s place. There’s part of me that wants to get the new loco and retrofit the chassis to these older locos, but on the other hand, I’m now 1:20, so they’re too small for my railroad, and dad has no use for them, either, having a stable full of other locos (including one 2008-vintage C-16).

Still, if you’re on the fence about buying one of these, I do recommend them. The one that runs on my dad’s railroad is a solid, reliable locomotive.

Later,

K

I wish I had the cash to pick up one of these myself.
I hope they’re still available in another month, when the GRR budget should be improved.

I have an original Delton C-16. Beautiful locomotive.

After reading a post on a German blog I also went to the Aristo site. Sooo … how do you check out with your shopping cart?

This what happens

https://www.aristocraft.com/checkout.asp?step=1

They closed the website today…ostensibly to make sure everyone gets what they ordered (translation: they had no inventory control and may have sold more than they had?).

And that said…I liked the Delton rolling stock. Have a bunch of it…in fact, a whole bunch of new stuff stored in original boxes.
Fits very well with 1:22.5…same size, ignore the reporting marks and the boxcar floors too high when you open the doors.
My personal caboose on ops sessions is an old red D&RG caboose.
Couplers…well, some of the early ones were two-stage, locked open (kick cars for setouts?), later were not. Heads are identical to Lionel…and Mike Braga I think told me that makes sense as Schuster designed the line for Kughn of Lionel.
The two styles of couplers I use are Delton/Lionel and Bachmann.
Still have a bag of spare Delton couplers for repairs.
While the original Delton 2-8-0’s looked good, they had their operational issues.
The first Aristo “upgrade”, with the boiler WAY too high, was a step backwards. By the time they sorted it, interest in 1:24 seems to have waned.
Shame.

I wish I could spare the bucks to buy one, I’ve been wanting one ever since they upgraded the drive.

I’ve got five original Delton C-16 lokies in service with R/C batteries and new detail and of course POC lettering. The oldest one I’ve had since I believe 1988 and the last about 1991-2. All are still in service.

I also bought two Aristo C-16s some time ago for parts. So far I’ve used the pilot for detail on one original and cylinders to replace broken ones on number 6. I’ve had no need to replace any mechanisms so I have one Aristo in parts and the other intact.

For anyone not in 1:20 scale I highly recommend these lil’ guys. I’m also puzzled as to why I’ve heard of no one converting a C-16 to a small to medium size standard gauge 2-8-0. With a smaller cab and 1:32 or 1:29 detailing they’d be an ideal engine for way freights or turn of the century mainline freights. Absolutely excellent for a standard gauge logging road as well.
