Aristo 5400 Power Supply died. Fix, Cannibalize, or Trash?

This has probably been asked and answered a hundred times.

But the 2.2 amp 5400 just died a slow death running short trains during an open railroad (figures).

Just got weaker and weaker and finally gave out altogether. Never came back on like they sometimes do if they overheat.

Is there something that could be an easy fix? If not, I may try cannibalizing the transformer and rectifier for other projects.

Whatcha think?

Thanks,

Paul

Since you asked, I would trash it.

I’m with John, trash it. 2.2 amps is too little for serious running. :+1:

Not only that, the parts you salvage might be the reason it died.

Since the topic says “Fix, Cannibalize or Trash” I’m gonna go with “cannibalize” cause that’s what I do a every once in awhile. Just note that if your going the cannibalism route I would highly recommend labeling the parts bags and the reason for such, otherwise your just storing stuff that you may just “trash” years later anyway? This is the gamble that many modelers struggle with!
