Arist TE battery link problem

HI
I am running my G scale indoors for the winter above my HO layout. I have a trailer car with plugs. I am running the TE receiver in a trailer car. I am using 18 volt Black and decker drill batteries. I have noticed I am having a hard time getting the receiver to link with the transmitter. I hooked it up to a power pak and it did it just fine. Do the batteries have to be that charged up to make it linK? Also any recommendations for better battery power. I am no electrician so keep it simple. I used to use 12 volt gel paks but I thought 18 volt drill batteries would give me more power. I only have about a 10 foot long by 8 foot loop.,
Thanks

Voltage could be an issue if the batteries are not charged. The TE Reciever needs a minimum of 12V (I think) to start up. The 18V batts should work fine. Also be sure you have the polarity correct on the batter side of the TE.

As long as you are over 12v, then the problem is most likely your antenna. Make sure it doesn’t cross itself and is as high in the car as you can get it. I use a car with 14v batteries and have no problems at all.
