AREA #1: ALL SNOW & BLIZZARD WITH 14 TO 22 INCHES OF SNOW EXPECT

I think you should program a train operations app for the iPad!

We supposedly got twelve inches last night and this morning in the Oklahoma City area. More wind than anything causing drifts. Needless to say, my bike stayed parked and I stayed home from work and likely will tomorrow as well. Today’s high is 10°F. Three days ago it was 74°F.

Northeast of Dallas we didn’t get much snow, but we had 5 hours of sleet and freezing rain before the little snow. We are expected to get above freezing Friday afternoon. We were in the 70s Sunday. I’m blaming the Packers and Steelers for bringing it with them when they arrived yesterday.

I roof raked the front. Going to get the neighbor kid to do the back.

HI Guys:

Tomorrow, way up north in Ottawa ( Canada’s capital ) that US midwest snow system is to drop four inches of snow. Wow! Heaviest snow fall yet this winter. I have shoveled my drive only three times this winter. All of this winter snow has skirted just south of the Canada / US border and then tracked north to hit Atlantic Canada.

Strange winter just like last year. New Yorkers must believe that we have a huge amount of snow considering what New York City has experienced.

Around ten years ago, I visited Disney World Florida during my Christmas holidays. The weather was unusually warm with glorious sunshine my entire visit. Strange how one notices the smell of grass when arriving in Tampa following a short flight from Ottawa in the dead of winter. I was really enjoying the summer like weather. On Christmas day I was unexpectantly somewhat depressed, no Snow! Just didn’t conform to my childhood memories of Christmas with snow coated pine and spruce trees. However, on Dec 26 I was totally pumped up again on the summer like weather. I never expected my reaction to the summer like weather on Dec 25. Other Ottawa friends of mine have commented that they had the same experience and they now always celebrate Christmas in Ottawa with the snow and then travel to the warm spots. Christmas just is not the same without the snow and cold air.

Interesting how Christmas is the busiest day of the year at Disney World. I had expected Disney World to be closed to celebrate the birth of Christ. Had fun but the crowds were oppressive. I rode the steam train most of the day around the Magic Kingdom. I really enjoyed speaking with the various American families. The best location to stand and watch the steam trains pass by was at Mickey Toon Town station. The other neat experience was riding the paddle wheel boat. Interesting to watch the two pistion engine drive the rear paddle wheel. One previous post mentioned bugs in the warm climate: a Disney employee mentioned that Disney World had lost one of the paddle wheel boats. The boat was lifted out of the “river” for routine service using a crane with slings at either end of the boat. CRACK! Termites had eaten throughout the hull and structural beams. The paddle wheel steam engine was salvaged for a future boat rebuild. So every climate has its negative aspects.

Two easy winters here in Ottawa. My guess is next year we are really going to get dumped on.

Was it two or three winters ago that we came close to busting the 14+ foot record from the early '70s?
Meanwhile, I’m quite happy to see the heavy dumps going elsewhere – sorry, guys who are being dumped on, but my back can’t take that shovelling any more. Fortunately, our neighbour has a snowblower and usually does our driveway as well as his.
And as NB observces, we’ll not get away with light winters forever. Ain’t waiting for the other shoe wonderful?

Here’s what it looked like here from about 2pm to 5pm. There is a road and then a treeline out there somewhere. And about 5 utility poles from 2 line routes crossing.
